I had to buy a new graphic card since my mainboard needs at least AGP 2x. Anyways, this new baby has dual head, which means that I can install 2 monitors. Has anyone something like that? Right now I have a 17" screen. Can I use a 15" with XP Pro as well? Any experiences so far?

I have only used it at work but I am considering it alot because in Reason, you can drag the sequencer to another screen, which mean that I can control the sampler, drummachine, synth etc itself on one screen and arrange the stuff it each machines sequencer on the other screen. If you do it before me, let me know how it works out.

yeah, thatīs what i am actually looking for. get the playlist in on the one screen and the stepsequencer on the other one. no more scrowling and stuff. the only problem ist that I hardly have any space on my table left and those older screens are very huge. iīd love to get the same monitors twice. Iīll see what ebay can do ...

Hey,

To answer your question: YES, you can use a 15" monitor with XP with a dual-head card.

Did you get the new Matrox?

Take care,

Nick

Hey,

Here's my dual head setup:

http://www.leodaley.com/studio/center.jpg

It's a Matrox G450, I got it for $100 a couple years ago and it is great. I had purchased an ATI Radeon and had all sorts of problems with things like shapes not drawing or come windows only displaying black.

What's nice about my Matrox card is that it was designed for 2d graphics, which is how audio software diplays itself. You can read about them here:

http://www.matrox.com/mga/workstation/2dws/home.cfm

With their newer cards you can run 3 monitors!

Take care,

Nick

i heard of matrox being 1st choice for 2d applications.
but even a used g450 at ebay is more expensive than my radeon.
i hope that i wonīt have the same problems with the radeon. i havenīt found any time to install it and still need to pick up a 2nd monitor somewhere.

I was considering the Matrox Millennium G550 Dual-DVI + RGB. I hope its an OK card. I would of course rather have the Matrox Millennium G400 Max Dual but its just too much for my budget at the moment with the renovation of my apartment going on too (its more than double the cost of a G550).

Hey,

Wow, I always thought the Matrox cards were cheaper than other dual head cards....how much are they going for? If you look for OEM versions of the card, you can save yourself a lot of money.

Here's an OEM G550 for $98:

I heard that it is a good idea to get a small utility for multi monitoring. has anyone heard of UltraMon? Is it any good? Any alternatives?
Thanks

Not bad! Either way you can't go wrong with Radeon. Where did you purchase it? Online?

I'm running a dual setup by having two video cards (Voodoo 3000 & an old S3 Virge!) It's very useful when u got loads of stuff open at the same time.

Yeah xp will except the dual monitor setup. I do suggest getting the same size monitors though just speaking from experience makes it a little easier on the eyes since the fonts are the same size and all. Good thing about the dual monitor setup is you can keep stuff you fiddle with on one side and scroll through the other stuff on your second monitor. I keep logics internal mixer on one monitor at all times that way I don't have to flip through screen presets to turn down the snare or some sound that's to loud.
