the easiest way is with a midi keyboard - just play the melody or bass with the keys
also man, make sure ur using a legit version of FL (that you paid for) and check out all the tutorials and videos at www.flstudio.com

Use the piano roll. right click on the sample in the step sequencer and choose 'piano roll' there are tons of tutorials online and the help file is ok too.

If you use the BooBass, a nice all around setting is maxing up the bass and lowering the Mid and High.

layer the boobass with the hip_bass_2 from the hip hop pack that comes with fruity. it sounds nice if you tweak it right

u can tweak the dx 10 and the 3xosc for a good bass, or search for some bass vst's there are a couple good ones out & the piano roll is good for melodies and basslines if u dont have a midi keyboard
