It's the 1000 with a couple extra bells and whistles. Unfortunately, I've seen this kind of product release before. I'm a fan of Roland stuff but Roland has a problem. They like to kill support and discontinue shit quick. Seeing APMI doing this now, it looks to me like they're going to drop the 1000 quickly and decisively. Too bad. The Roland disease is spreading. Better get vaccinated.

THis is what I beleive. They are not going to ditch the 1000, its saling to stong. People are buying them like crazy then saleing them on ebay complaining. More will buy this to ditch their 1k when they are not in direct competiton. But since this will be smaller I might ditch the 4k for this and have the 1k for underway and the 25k for home since they will be compatible. THis makes since for me, but paying 2G's I don't know about that. I also like the fact that its 10 outs right out the box. But I'm still wondering if its worth the dough.

The Akai Professional MPC2500 Music Production Center combines a 64-Track MIDI Sequencer with a 32-voice 16bit Stereo Digital Sampler. The MPC is a rock solid sequencing and drum programming machine with 16 velocity and pressure sensitive rubber pads. The unit allows you to sample more efficiently. This composition center is contained in one extremely powerful desktop unit. Designed for professional audio production, the MPC2500s intuitive and ergonomic interface makes it the ultimate user friendly composition studio Two internal effects processors can be used simultaneously. This includes a wide range of effects algorithms, such as reverb, bit grunger, chorus, phasers, flying pan, 4-band EQ, compressor, and a phase shifter. Real-time control is provided by two note variation sliders and two Q-Link knobs. Q-link knobs can be separately assigned to allow flexible, real-time performance control of a wide variety of selectable parameters. These
parameters include level, pan, filter cut-off and
resonance, tuning, LFO(low frequency oscillator) speed depth, all effect parameters and more. Each assignable Q-Link knob can generate MIDI controller data so that all performance information can be recorded and played back from within a sequence. The Q-Link sequencer allows cyclic modulation
programming. Following the highly acclaimed MPC60 and MPC3000, 2 MIDI inputs and 4 MIDI outputs
come standard enabling 64 external MIDI channel operation. In addition, the MPC2500 can individually control its onboard sampler up to 64 Parts, allowing users to assign a different program on each track. A large LCD screen allows a clear view of sequence data displaying features such as a
piano roll, or a drum machine 'grid'. Continuous MIDI data can be shown as well as edited graphically. The MPC2500 comes with 16MB of onboard memory which can be expanded up to 128
MB of RAM via the optional EXM128 memory card. The MPC2500 has the capability of an
optional internal 80GB Hard Disk and CD-RW drives. Positioning Akai Professional, in its pursuit to remain the leader of digital sampling technology has released the MPC 2500. This unit designed for
professional audio production, offers drum programming, sequencing, and sampling capabilities. Artists now have the luxury of producing music with a compact music composition center.

judging the spec not too much yo. Class did say if you already have a 2kxl, the next step from that is the 4k. this 2500 clearly looks like a step from the 1k and a replacemnt of the 2k.

I'm with you on that one. I can't believe that they did'nt make it 24bit capable. I guess if they did it would make the MPC 4000 redundant. I don't know. I think it's the ultimate middle machine though. The upgrades on it are much needed to bring this classic machine into the this age. I think that they waited long enough. They are not on some Roland ish.
Before I run off and sell my 2000XL though; I'll wait and see what kind of bugs this machine is going to have. LOL!

Its not 24 bit because it's still the same engine, in fact, besides the 4 midi out and the bigger display it's pretty much a mpc1k. I think they're dumping the factory stock since Alesis bought akai pro and heading for new generation mpc's like the 4k, with budget models based on the 4k and the Z engine.

LOL! I just saw some video on Sonic State from the London Plasa show, showing some movie of a dude from Akaipro saying that the MPC 2.5k is the most powerful MPC to date, shipping at the end of the year for a price just under the 2000 pounds! Ridiculous! Lemme see, that's around 3300 dollars lol. I'm not sure if this dude knew what he was talking about, but the price is way out of range to me. Check the movie if you don't believe me http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=2348#
The strange thing is, that the article at Sonic State itself says, that the price is not yet available but it will be in the region of 2000 dollars.

09-17-2005, 05:58 PM
Mad look, to me and, I had the original 2000 at least for about a 2 years and then I had the 3000 for about 2......I dunno man but I cant really see any off the top differences in what i get from the 1000 as far as groove or the end product though but you know the machines like the sp and the 3000 a lot has to do with how you equ just like any other box for the sound.....but hey man I like to edit a lot of drums and sample but I sort of got sick of using the floppy and the zip and my LCD started fading so I had to get another mpc....so I was in between spending the money for a new MPC and this cat bought and MV8000 and sold me the 1000 for dirt cheap.....so thats how I am using that new Skool gear LOL...but I love it...(plus I know some secrets about it you will not find anywhere on the net LOL) oh what makes me work faster is the ability to sample into protools from vinyl and edit on the computer and chop precisely then save a kit directly to my mpc via usb....now I have the mpc editor and that made the work easier on the 3000 though thats a good tool to have if you like to edit on the computer.....
MadScientist
09-18-2005, 02:48 AM
ok cool ... I'm in the process of upgrading to a new mpc ... not sure which model though. My 3000 is starting to fuck up I've had it so long. The screen went out once before and I had it replaced and now the pads / buttons are fuckin' up to. When I tap pad1 it will also play pad2 and pad5 .... sometimes even pad6. I could just take it in and have the pads fixed but is it even worth it?
any suggestions?
oh, and I think the only way you can sync on a MPC 1000 and the new soon to be released MPC 2500 is by MIDI CLOCK .... THAT SUCKS!!!!!! I need to use MTC (MIDI TIME CODE) I guess my only 2 options are the 2000xl or the 4000 .... I'm leaning towards the 4000 because of the 4 MIDI outs

Well coming from the 3000 the 4000 probably might be a good deal...or maybe the 2500 hunet....but if you got the bucks get the 4000 and wait for the 2500 to get the field tests....ya know..I want to see the feedback for a few months then make the move....

It's too bad they didn't include a hard disk in there. A standard 3.5" HDD might not fit in there but I'm sure now by looking at the video and seeing the size now that a 2.5" notebook HDD would surely be able to fit in there somewhere. And those drives are now available in 80 GB sizes now, maybe even larger. At least 2500 buyers would be getting hard disk storage.

My bad...the unit will have that ability. A user installable internal 2.5" hard disk will available as an option on the 2500. That's a good feature.
