Whats up everyone,
I got an old school disney record off my friends parents, one of those old story read along shits. Anyway it has a tight orchastra sample on it, but the static is too much. I like static but this is overpowering. I've tried messing with the highs and lows, adding more weight to the needle and tons of different EQ settings...anyone got any tricks for cleaning this up a bit?

could be the shit under the record, the slipmat , the plate, the plastic sheet,if u use one, take em off the turn table and spray em lightly wit sum anti static shit u can buy at any drug store, dont douse em just lightyly spray and let dry, then just clean yur record with a sponge and sum water make sure u dry quickly so u dont leave streaks, thats about all u can do, vinyl wears away.

Try cleaning the record with something. That may work, I've had this happen a number of times and if it's too bad It's just fucked, not much to do.

You can try Sound Soap or something along that line to try and get the static out

I cleaned up my mats and spray them with static guard, it helped a bit so I am going to get some more record cleaner tomorrow, the shit I have is ancient. Thanks for the responses the simple stuff is usually what I overlook.

Peace,
Josh

Try recording it to ur computer and using a compression effect on your editor of choice. The plugin i use for compression is the Waves Diamond Bundle pack. should work.

compressing it will make it sound even worse

you need to put a high pass filter on it....or get new needles....

use an intelligent de noiser, the kind that "learns" the sound that you want to remove. e.g. waves x-noise.

OH, HELL YES!!!! Them shits is beautiful, right? LOL

That X-Crack + X-Noise is a beast!

Magix makes a $20 program that is supposed to be able to clean noise out of old records.

X-Hum, X-Crackle, X-Noise, X-Click always get the job done. In soundforge they also have a audio restoration effect in there. Adobe Audition is good for cleaning up samples too.
