subtly layer your instruments like stratigies of chess. Force your instruments to play a role based on your production through volumes and levels.

ive done that, it prolly helps i used to play trumpet in the middle school band, i got the melodirs set and all, just the horns sound cheap, how can i make the sound full?

every production is individual and YOU want to create something new. It's abotu the artist so stretch your sober resources as far as they will go... but only in the realm of dopeness. this is the mechanism of breaking the mainstream

add some reverb or try layering some brass/ horns/ trumpet sound with the combinator.

you played the trumpet before, so the key is to get your shit sounding like real brass, of course since you played you should know A)trumpets don't play in chords, B)a trumpet player plays one note at a time and the notes don't cross over each other, C)set up a horn section and make it sound like 3 or four of em, and if you want to do chords, play one note from each single horn and have them drop alternative notes to make a chord collectively...and try to match the acoustics real brass would produce...

yo all the instruments in reason are wack, get your self some dirty samples, or if you play, play em yourself.....otherwise export your sampple and bit crunch it down to like 12bit then filter it (LP) then boost the bass.....heavy yes yes

unfortunately i havent had a trumpet in year, but the case made a great case for my bong
ya the sound in reason sound like with a lil knowledge they could be tweaked to sound right, but i dont have that knowledge

hmm maybe add some compression to them, that usually makes things sound punchier/nicer. also could experiment with some effects like some light chorus or unison

nothing beats a REAL sample, no matter how cheesy it might sound by itself or layered its all about simulating the blown instrument and simulating it, and the same with guitars and strings, simulating the way a strum or chord would naturally occur and then with that if you know how to voice a trumpet through a mouthpiece or properly play a guitar chord and relate its hard to simulate accurately if you dont play you need to listen and study real instruments.......I am not sure if there is a breathe controller you can use with your computer and reason, these are excellent next best thing for using a workstation synth or sample, the one that came with the motif is pretty impressive when used with the add in board, I think there are a ton of REAL soundfonts and samples that can be made to sound convincing in a track but just pressing the key is what makes a horn sound cheap and unrealistic.....

First mess with your release to make sure it isnt giving too much reverb and this will in turn give you a punchier feel.

Next open an MClass Equalizer on the sound, select Lo cut, Lo shelf around 12-14 gain, and Param 1 around 4-10 gain.

Finally add a vocoder to your sound, select 4-band and Equalizer and move your attack to the front and release to the back.

That along with layering and a little more tweaking can give you fairly lifelike sounds and you can also experiment with scream to add a SLIGHT bit of distortion and give it a grimier feel.

yo...this is what u do. load a combinator, find the symphonic brass patch, load a scream distortion, use either tube/or tape distortion. (VERY LIGHT) load a straight mute trumpet (soft), mix the volume in very lightly to taste. EQ the whole patch to taste. and also tweak the settings on which horns you want to play. (im not sure what kind of horn sound u want.) this is my lil secret, i got some Miles Davis-esque Birth of the Cool sounding horns out of this..sounds quite natural. Very smooth sound, i'll post some beats i made with it in a few days. hope this helps. REASON IS A BEAUTIFUL TOOL FOR TWEAKING SOUNDS, IT TEACHES YOU HOW TO BE A PRODUCER, VIA HEARING THE SOUND YOU WANT IN YOUR HEAD AND USING THE TOOLS YOU HAVE TO MAKE THAT SOUND. for better and worse...lol. For those needing any more reason 3 help...holla

1. deinstal reason
2. instal fl studio/cubase/sonar or any other sequencer that supports VST
3. instal vst plugin like colossus
4. there u go

reason is limited dont WASTE YOUR TIME IN TWEAKING SHIT because bad input means bad output u feel me? if the input is shit like the reason instruments u cant make the output sound much better u feel me?

Same thing goes for FL... 80% of niggas on fl's beats SOUND like they came from FL. Thats the whole thing about computer sequencing.. We try to make it not sound like computer sequencing.

its all in the mix.

I dont think my beats scream reason too loudly..

and i'm a reason head.

I have a few cubase tracks up there, made with VST's And i dont think they vary in sound at all, infact I'm not too sure that a person can identify which sequencer i used in my beats without being told, prior.
