My sister got me a promo from her store. The CD is pretty good. This is only true for open minded people who have no problem acknowledging St. Louis flava. If you hate Nelly, Ali, Ludacris, or anything with any sort of Southern flava, then don't bother.

I prefer East coast hip hop above all else but I can listen to anything. I don't care much for Nelly, but this album was good to me.

There is always a debate between sampling and playing your own arrangements and it has been coming up a lot lately. This album was heavy on the synths. I didn't see much sample listing in the credit fine print. The beats are pretty good to me. They knock nice in my truck. From what I can tell, the beats are all original.

As far as draw dropping lyricism filled with complicated metaphors and concepts, not much there. There are even a few cliche gangsta pimp lines. But he does have a lot of character which makes the music entertaining enough to over look any contextual shortcomings. Evevybody can't be Aesop Rock. But I don't like to compare artists too much anyway. As far as the overall sound, I can't really find anything to say too bad about it. Lots of beat effects and thump.

The uncut video on the CD is definitely a nice bonus.

i think Chingy is slick. i really dont care for too much southern music but if i do listen to it, it has to be slick. his concept was nice in "right thur" he'll grow with time he has the potential.

You like the concept? What concept... the concept of hot girls and money? "Right thurr" is no different from any other song out now, (Lil Bow Wow's new shit, Nelly and P Diddy's shit,) the concept of hot girls and cars is getting old. That's why I like Gangstarr. They rhyme about that shit a little, but mostly thier stuff is something BESIDES how much dough they have.

Crap!!!!!!!! No hating going on over here just my opinion. Chingy is a gimmick artist like Nelly. I wonder if stating my opinion will get my posted reply deleted. It did last time. If thats the case, why have a chat forum if you can't state you opinions. (What a waste of money)

I think he's a smarter and better rapper than nelly....If he would have came with a banger besides right thurr as a lead single he would have been looked at a little more seriously...Nelly and his camp took that word Thurr and ran with it right into the ground....Bad marketing on his part but the video made up for a little bit

I agree with those that say CHINGY is DINGY however the bottom line is that he's in. Not saying that he's a sellout to REAL hip hop or nothing like that because I ddont know him. Some are in it just for the money and fame. There are tons of so-called rappers who just don't have the gift of spitting in my opinion but I'm not going to knock them for their style even if I don't like it. Somebody thought they would be marketable and gave them a chance.

Last time your post just said "CRAP!!!", which made no contribution to the topic and didn't include any arguement why you think it's crap...actually, you're still not making any arguements why.

Also, nobody who posted above you wrote that he was the best or anything, they just told their point of view and did so in a serious and nice way...no hype. If you then can't be serious about it also, why post something and provoke?

Personally, I don't like much midwest or southern rap either and if somebody posts that it's the best and nothing else can compete with it, being all hyped about it...then sure, that would provoke me too. But nobody seemed to do that.
We have to acknowledge, even though we may not like it, that midwest and southern rap currently has a big market and some of that market is on this board too. We have to respect them too, just like they should respect us back.

CHINGY..........MUST..........GO............ ah whatever, he's gettin paid, right? i just had a conversation with a friend of mine about the same exact thing....... he was like "why are you hating the guy for gettin paid"... well, him gettin paid doent do a thing for my eardrums!!! Guerva had it dead on when he said that cats are just gettin the female votes these days.... this guy sounds so ameteur its rediculous... of course, i am still waiting for next pay day so i can pay off my moif rack, while he is gettin the play and the money, but he still sucks. to say he is a better rapper than nelly, well, THAT doesnt exactly take much, but being good and being marketable are two different things... someone mentioned gangstar... yeah they talk about the $$ a little, but the majority of Guru's content seems to be speaking about how much he doesnt, and how wack everyone else is, and howmuch skills they got as a group...which makes him just about as (un)productive as the wack mc's hetalks about (who he never seems to mention by name, he just talks "in general")

I put this up mostly as an arrow to check his CD is you are into synth beats.

Like I said in the first place, he is no Aesop Rock but he has a silly character which can help you overlook the lack of sophisticated content. The overall production is still worth studying.

I wasn't trying to dive into the political aspects of his career and artistry cuz from what I've seen you guys post so far, your personal opinions will always over rule anything else posted.

My point simply was, if you wanna hear some synth beats that are blowing up the spot right now instead of sampled beats and dry remakes, then download his album. Hell I know none of yall bastards is buying CD anymore anyway. : )

Apparently you haven't heard ANY of my beats cuz all I do is cut up samples.

I couldn't play a good sequence on a keyboard if my life depended on it. I don't give a shit if the beat is samples or synths as long as its bangin. You can't read or something. I didn't knock samples...I said dry remakes. And I wrote...

"If you hate Nelly, Ali, Ludacris, or anything with any sort of Southern flava, then don't bother. "

But you did bother. Why? I guess to hear yourself talk? Some people in this thread are actually trying to get better at this by studying other production techniques. That was the whole point of this thread. - Listen to the CD to hear some different synth beats. - Here you are, slamming the man, and all you've heard is one beat from watching the video. Hmmm....Chingy recognition = bookoo, Guevara recognition = nada.

And then it had to get even better. A personal attack.

You gonna call my name out on my thread?

And thrash my beats...that you never even listened to?

You don't walk into the wrong hood wearing the wrong flag son. That's how you get bodied. Phuk all this unneeded jibber jabber. We can handle this in the next showcase. You can't wait to here an Ominous beat...July 29th, step into the showcase and get bodied.

That Chingy cat is ok. The video is ok. I like the production and dude's energy more than anything else. The kid has a certain charisma, you just can't front on that. But the main thing is the brother is getting paid doing something positive. (the same damn thing we're all trying to do)
And as for the chicks in his video.... what would you rather see, them or a bunch of Bea Arthur look a likes shaking their geriatric asses?

Copenhagen you da shidd!!!....I like some good natured arguing I mean even though it's online they got some issues off of their chest.....just like east coast west coast rivalry, or like crosstown rivalry....as long as you can talk some ish and not get out of hand I think that bangin on the keyboard is somewhat a better way to get your point across than putting on some gloves.....I think there should be put up or shudd up battle war room....sort of like the showcase except you just put up a 25 second snippet.......and people vote....the first track that gets 10 votes wins and the loser shuts the fuck up until they prove worthy to outproduce the next man......

Chingy I can't express enough how much I don't like this new trend. I remember back in the days when you could hear a song and the lyrics would stay with you. Now half the songs all you remember is the catchy hook cause they aren't saying anything different than the last 8 tracks in regular rotation on your local radio. I might be getting old but, I don't really like much of this new garbage Nelly, Fabolous, and Chingy. If it wasn't for the gems like Talib I might have given up a long time ago. You know cats you gotta respect are the ones doing something with the fame Nas for instance I don't like every Nas track but if you pay attention you might learn something from him. At this rate by 2010 people will run out of ways to brag about hoes, cars and money. Course by then they will be riding around in monster trucks bragging about 40inch rims.

what a joke.

beatz 101.

Not to attack you, but why dont you make a song like Chingy, and post it. I'm willing to bet that you cant....

ya'll can say what you want about any of these guys making it, but they are making it because they are good songwriters.

Not just good rappers,or lyricists. Good SONGWRITERS. They are the total package.

It's a lot easier to rhyme words that sound big and scientific, and smart, then it is to write a chorus, bridge, verse, and make it catchy.

I respect Chingy, or Nelly just as much as I do Talib Kwali. They know how to write songs.

not just:

"scientific mystic with the ballistic cataclismic words that are twisted I rips it on some hip shit."

hahahaha...whatever.

as for the nas thing above this post...

I love nas. He's a great songwiter, but there has to be balance. For every Nas, there has to be a Chingy, or the world wouldnt know how to have fun.

I'm not hatin on Chingy because ya'll have to admit, he's gettin that dough. I'm not feeling his music though... I don't know who said it but I have to agree, the song "Right Thurr" is the tipical girl song. Most songs on TV now-a-days are, (or about cars,) but hey, what else is there to rhyme about when you've got money like that? It's either girls, money, or whips. Those are all things that pretty much anyone can relate to.

Cold Truth
08-06-2003, 08:18 PM
by you saying you aint feelin his music, you are hating on him... right? thats pretty much the way it is these days, when someone says that they dont care for this guy or that guy, they are officially hating because they dont like something. i dont care how much money dude makes- he sucks, period. hes getting paid.... and? there are people that make good money that slack on their jobs. they get paid, but that doesnt mean they do a good job. i acant count how many times this very same discussion has taken place here at illmuzik. what else is there to rhyme about? if you are so shallow that the only things available as topics are money, cars and clothes....then that jsut shows how limited he is as an artist, and justifies any and every diss he gets for being wack. who cares what kind of money you got, there are plenty of other things to say. even if he did get a little more in depth, he still sucks as a rapper. he is good for the marketing hype machine that drives EVERYTHING in the industry these days, nothing more. i can give credit where credit is due; he is marketable and the clubs eat him up, so he is a success. but as an artist? he is the biggest joke of the year, outside of the last to neptunes tracks (see busta and nas, both at all-time lows)

It's all a matter of personal taste. Sure, you can say that some people only like it because its fed to them via the radio 24/7 but I doubt that. A lot of people actually just like that kind of music and are not that unintelligent that they can't make a choice if their own which music they like.
I'm not feeling Chingy much either but I have nothing negative to say about him. That song is his personal expression and you can't disrespect somebody's personal expression. You can hate on the corporates and companies like Clearchannel for helping that type of Hip-Hop be what it is right now but what is that going to do for you. Nothing.
Sure their CEO's probably don't know jack shit about music but they still have A&R's and Marketing people who's job it is to find out what is going to make them a lot of money and this type of music obviously is because we all know they wouldn't do it if it didn't.
If you don't like that market and constantly hearing it on the radio, why torture yourself and turn on the radio. Why not spend your energy on trying to change the style by creating a new style for that market. Most likely, they will not go back to Boom Bap Hip-Hop or anything close to it for that matter. You're not helping anybody or yourself using negative energy on 'hating' on these people.
Also, seeing the latest poll results, 70% of you want to make it big. If that's the case, you better adapt.
