Has anyone here sucessfully recorded something at 24 bit and mixdown to 16 bit audio?
How is it done properly?
I got Cubase, and Cakewalk PRo but my soundcard doesn't playback 24 bit so is it possible to master using 24 bit without a soundcard that reads at that bit.

Hey,

Most of my recordings are done this way.

It's best to record, edit and mix everything in 24 bits, and then convert your 24 bit mixdown to 16 bits using a wave editor.

You can master at 24 bits, but if your card doesn't support 24 bit recording and playback, it's just wasting space on your hard drive and you'll probably get a playback error from the card's driver if you try to listen to it.

Take care,

Nick

Alot people do that, then in the mastering process dither it down to 16 bit
