Hey,

You have to know what PCI device you need drivers for!!!!

Questions, please answer them one by one:

1. Was your machine built by a person? Or a company, like Dell or Gateway?

2. After you reformatted your drive, did you install the operating system onto the drive?

3. If so, did you remove all the PCI cards from your computer BEFORE installing the operating system?

4. Did you install the operating sytem from a 'system restore' cd-rom, or did you install it from a Windows cd-rom?

5. Did your computer come with a 'drivers/applications' cd-rom?

Take care,

Nick

Hey,

Ok. Normally when you buy a computer from a manufacturer it will come with some sort of setup disk, either a complete setup which has the drivers and operating system on one or two disks, or it will come with a disk that has only the drivers on it.

Normally, what would happen is you fdisk and format the drive, install the operating system, then install the drivers from the driver disk to make up for drivers that XP wasn't able to supply.

Do you have such a disk?

And do you have any idea which PCI card is causing the error? You can check to see which cards have been installed by going to the Device Manager dialogue; you can get there by right clicking on My Computer, choosing Properties, clicking on the Hardware tab, then clicking on the Device Manager button. Once open, there is a list of all the devices you have installed on your system: soundcards, video cards, cd roms, hard drives, etc.

Is there anything on your computer which doesn't show up in the list, such as your Audigy? If there is, you need to install the driver for it from the cd that came with the card.

If there is a bunch of things in that list, it is possible that you have to install the motherboard drivers so that Windows knows how to communicate with its special features...

Take care,

Nick

"aight good lookin. that should be good."

Is this slang for, "Thanks, I found the disk, everything's working", or "thanks for the post, I'll try some stuff out and get back to you if nothing works"?

The last time someone said "aight good lookin" to me, it was a drunk woman in a country bar...:D

Take care

Nick
