If i were you i'd get a keyboard or synth that hardly anybody uses, the triton has been used to death. Other than that sounds good.

That's a real good setup for starting out. You dont wanna get too much at first, so this is good.

in addition to whats already been said, as an alternative suggestion to the triton, ive heard that roland & yamaha synths have more natural sounds to them. . .i personally plan to cop the motif rack once it drops. . .

in regards to the mbox though, i think you should do more reading up on it before you go out & get it. . .while looking into the digi 002 i came across a couple negative comments regarding latency issues. . .i never paid any mind to the comments due to the fact that the mbox didnt have nearly enough inputs as i wanted but you might want to look into it. . .

on an end note in regards to getting gear in general though, some of you may disagree but i personally feel that its better to get something that you really want, something that you could picture yourself using from tyme to tyme even after you get better shyt. i think a lot of people make the mistake of getting equipment because they feel that "its good for the price" - fuck good for the price - the question i ask is "is it good enough for me & what im tryna do?" The question i ask myself is "if i had more money would i still want xyz equipment or would i get something better?"

as an example, a couple of years back i was involved in dj'n - i had like $3 on me. . .instead of saving a couple more dollars and gettin one 1200 and getting another at a later date in tyme i opted for two gemini bullchyt tables (i dont even remember the model). . .them chyts were the worse when i finally got my 1200s. . .even though i felt that they were "good 4 the money" @ that tyme i never looked back at them shyts when i got my 1200s. . .practicin on bullchyt tables did make me nice when i got to the real chyts but equipment wise there was no comparison. . .it was like a kitted up mercedes cl 600 with the spinnin Lowenhart LD5 SP6 (http://www.superbuytires.com/wheels_by_brand.html?stage=2&brand=Lowenhart&model=LD5+SP6&id=6596&sugg_tire=255/35x20&orig_sugg=255/35x20) and two tvs in the headrest and one on the passenger side visor and a stock honda civic (not that i would know since i never driven any of the two cars but u get the point). . .

id get a pair of mackie 824s as far as the monitor goes. . .i havent worked with anything else so of course im bias but thats my .02. . .

Don't get the SM58, or keep it but also get a condenser microphone.

SM58 is a dynamic microphone that's good for on stage performances because it is durable and it generally is reliable.

In the studio, you usually want a condenser, and judging by the amount of money you are putting in your studio, you should really get a side address condenser microphone for recording vocals. This is key because condensers are generally better at handling a larger frequency range, are far more sensitive, and usually contribute to an overall better quality recording.

For the condenser, you would obviously need phantom power and a mixer that supports such an option (most do.)

Oktava MK 219 is a good large diaphragm mic that is affordable. $149.99 USD for 2 of them)

For non-Russian mics, that cost a bit more, look at an AKG C-3000. $299 USD.

the latency issues i mentioned are only what i read about. . .i never looked into the mbox since it doesnt have midi & enough inputs. . .

heres two threads i came across while doin a search on another board i be on from tyme to tyme. . .

Thread One (http://www.futureproducers.com/forums/showthread.php/threadid/22522/goto/nextoldest)
Thread Two (http://www.futureproducers.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=22267)

heres what seems to be an article by someone who has actually used the product. . .

Article One (http://emusician.com/ar/emusic_digidesign_mbox_mac/)

heres the link to the digidesign forum (or as they prefer to call it "user conference" where u can find information from experience users on multiple platforms. . .

Digidesign Forum (http://duc.digidesign.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi)

on a final note, the fuck with what people say. . .half the tyme the people sayin chyt dont even have the chyt being talked about. . .im not sayin that you shouldnt get it, im sayin to research the equipment that you want and realize that u do have options. . .it all depends on what youre lookin to accomplish. . .go the store and try it out if you need to. . .what works for somebody else may not work for the next person. . .some people dont know how to tweak chyt and end up givin bad reviews about a product. . .im even guilty of this. . .chyt i got a $3k keyboard cause i heard chad uses the rack version of it and i liked the blue colored background along with the touch screen. . .@ the end of the day just make sure that youre satsified with what you got. . .its also good to check with the merchants return policy just in case u realize that theres something you dont like with a product and want to return it. . .my .02. . .

I'd suggest the pc with a (power)pulsar and A16 by Creamware.
A mackie desk ( VL1604 )
Genelec 1029a
2nd hand MPC2000 ( not even the XL ).
2nd Roland JV module ( like 1080,2080 )
cheap ass analogue synth with midi and usable sound for use as masterboard ( Roland JX3,8,P/Alpha Juno1,2/Korg Dw6 or 8k/Prophecy/ Yamaha QS200/SY 35 to 99/ DX100/ ).
If u gotz cash left try a good sturdy sampler like the Z4,8/S5K,6k or Emu. If not, the pulsar serves as an excellent sampler which can be triggered by MPC.
