Easy Stress, whats happenin!

Yo man, Id get a 2000XL, a SCSI ZIP Drive, and a SCSI Cable (+ a couple of ZIP100's) and get down to business.....

BUT, im reading nuff about the 1000XL and how easy it is to interface to PC's so it may be an idea to check this out instead. When I want to move samples to my MPC Ive got to conect the ZIP Drive to the PC and copy across.. it dosent take long but my PC needs a reeboot to sense that the drive is connected (Win NT based on 2000, dont ask!) so its a bit of a pain sometimes (or im justs lazy!) I hear the 1000XLs got USB which would id imagine would be wicked... Im not too sure about feature differences but Im sure theres guys on here that will be able to break it down to detail!!!

Hope this helps,
Peace.
P

Stress, I'm bout to cop the MPC 1000. The reason i decided on that model is #1 that you can connect it to your pc via usb. Also its portable.

i recently heard the 2xl will soon offer compact flash as a storage medium... i personally copped the 1k cause i dont need all the extra features of the 2xl, id rather do my time stretching and sample editing on the pc, than transfer, plus the 1k fits in your lap, you can take it ANYWHERE!

Right now Im rockin the 1000 and im luvin it, im still thinking about upgrading to the 2k but I dont want to get rid of the my 1k. I say look on this site for some 1k vs 2k threads and see which one your leaning toward.

rumor has it they gonna be addin sum features to the mpc 1k os that the 2000xl has timestretching is one of em ,sum magazine in germany reported it as a direct statement from akai

It's not impossible, both use the same coding for the engine so anything done on the 2kxl should in theory be possible on a 1k. Wether they do it is another question.

To tell u the truth Stress I got the MPC2000 and I use softwar and u know what I use my MPC for.... To bang drums and Midi-Thur.... I've been on software so long, for me to upload the sounds, assign, edit, trim and all of that... is just too much for me... I like to make my beats quick....So w/ my 2000 I can get that MPC feel w/ my drums in Reason and also take avant. of that Note Repeat function, unlike the MPD....so it's up to you, i always say, get what fits you and your setup...not what everyone else is using... by the way $500 UN-USED PAWN(some kid bought it in Japan, then got back to the states and had to sell it..Still in the orignal box and wrapping...).... chk there, A PAWN SHOP IS A BROKEN MUSICANS HEAVEN....

Werd. I actually always wanted an MPC way before I got into sftware. Actually before I got into beats. I saw what it could do and when I was ready to make tracks, I knew I had to have it! But, good looks, I do wanna try a pawn shop. I have a few in NJ.

You can put an IDE card reader inside your MPC2000XL, if you have the right model. See the link mentioned above. My company SCSIforSamplers.com is about to start offering external SCSI card readers/writers for the MPC2000XL in the next month. Hit me up or check our website for more details.

Stress, with the 8 out you wanna start counting your inputs of the soundcard and how much you got left... Software-wise, I got one mpc on output functioning like a midi (thru) recorder, between logic and all the other hardware devices controlled under logic. While its in thru mode it also works as the stand alone mpc but slaved to logic's tempo. Basicaly the idea is to create beats on the mpc and other hardware connected to it and save the song to a midi file ( file type-1 ), which you load back into logic again to edit the arrangements made on the mpc. When done you set the mpc to record in a new song and let it record all the midi channel's data from the logic editing you've done into the mpc. Once the song is finished, you arm the inputs you want to record the hardware that you have used and/or the 8 out from the mpc and disarm the slave mode. Once doing the tracking you can add vsts and mix the recorded audio channels. Point of doing this route is to use the timing of mpc, not the pc and have flexible editing capabilities. I also use this for arranging live stuff, basic rule is to keep all editing and scoring to midi, not audio or vst unless there's a laptop in the midi-chain, imo better use a hardware sampler(s).

The other way around is to slave a laptop to a mpc with a vst host. Basically it will support 16 chnls for the amount of midi output given by your soundcard on which you can load a vst instrument, FL is also a vst instrument. If your soundcard has rocksolid timing and enough I/O you can stream the 8 out back into FL while being a vst client under the VST host. Note that the vst host does not have a sequencer, its all mpc timing and a fast! laptop.
