I'd get a rack and midi controller, i'm sure everybody is going to say Korg triton but there's other alternatives out there. Try the Korg Karma or Yamaha Motif.

the best korg triton motif combo would be get the triton classic or the korg karma and then get the motif rack. i feel with a mpc you dont need another sampler and if you get a motif 6 7 8 your gona get another seq/sample and if you later on want toget thr triton your gona have another seq/sampler and your gona never really use them at all...

my dad got a yamaha keyboard it is top of the line would it work ?

Hey,

If you have an MPC, the only thing you'll need are a pair of speakers and some sound sources, like sample cd's or a cd player/turntable.

You won't NEED to have another controller, but it sure makes things a lot easier if you want to play in musical notes.

'Top of the line' sounds like what the salesman told your dad before he sold him the keyboard...what model is it? The current big-boy from Yamaha is the Motif, they run about $1500. As long as it has MIDI ports on the back of it, you should be ok.

I got most everything used, and most of my gear is a few years old, so it was a lot cheaper than people think. One of the best investments I've made was with Sound Diver, it allows me to easily program my synths so that I constantly have new sounds.

You're getting a sampler, you will in theory have an unlimited amount of sounds. There are lots of sample cd's out there which are relatively cheap which will turn your MPC into a light version any synth available. If you really get into it, you can make your own sounds by sampling other stuff and messing with it in a wave editor and with the synth functions of the MPC.

keyboards are good if you just like to play once in a while. Go the software route if youre not a key playa.
