Ok I have windows xp, 751 mhz, 20gb, 64 ram. I have a roland um-1 usb interface so I can connect that to the back of my keyboard to the usb port of my computer. This is a bad part, windows xp doesn't understand the driver which means that I can not use my keyboard to trigger squences from the computer to the keyboard and vice versa. I feel pretty missed up now. I guess all I can do is simply sample off of hip hop ejay and use fruity loops for the time being. sometimes i dont like xp cause there are a few things that I can't install.

(THATS THE REASON WHY I WANT HARDWARE NOT BECAUSE IT CAN DO MORE)

I checked this site: http://www.usb-drivers.com/ but didn't find anything for it.

Then I checked here: http://www.edirol.com/products/info/um1s.html and it shows that it's compatible with Windows XP. At the bottom of the page it says "* Must have a compatible USB host controller." Maybe you can check that out.

Other than that, I don't know. XP should be able to recognize it. Did you turn off your PC, plug the cable in the USB port, then turn your PC back on? Sometimes Windows might not recognize it because you have to turn off your PC first before you make the hook up.

Hey,

Edirol and Roland are one and the same, I think. Roland for mixers and synths, Edirol for 'desktop' products.

Take care,

Nick

Yea I realized that people uses windows 98......why is that? Is it because it rarely crashes? I know for sure that Me crashes like a bitch.

Hey,

People use 98se because it has been around for a long time now, they're used to it and they are familiar with its little quirks. It is compatible with just about everything out there, so rest assured that whatever you buy will work with it.

Now that WDM drivers are doing better and better, people are slowly moving towards 2000 and XP. This will change in a few years though, as Microsoft will AGAIN be changing how drivers will be written for high performance.

ME is a big pain in the butt, but if you run the updates from the Microsoft site you will have better luck.

Take care,

Nick
