What's up people? Ok, I just got my CD-R hooked up to my MPC and I can't figure out how to get the samples to load. I have like 5 cd's full of different drum kit samples and stuff, but once I put the CD in the drive I'm a bit stuck. I've tried following the manual but I want it to load up like the zip disk does and it doesn't. Could someone be kind enough to help me out and give me an easy walk through on how to do it? Thanx a lot.

Hey,

I've never used an MPC, but on the samplers I've used there were a few things to remember:

1. The CDROM has to be a SCSI drive.
2. You have to assign a number to each device in the SCSI chain, so the MPC would be assigned #1 and the drive #2. OFten this is done for you automatically.
3. You have to 'terminate' the chain. This is usually done by plugging a little box into one of the SCSI ports on the CDROM.
4. You may have to setup the MPC OS to look for the SCSI device on its port...if it doesn't 'see' the drive attached to it, you won't have any luck.

Some questions:

1. Is your drive a SCSI drive?
2. Is the drive supported by the MPC?
3. Can the MPC 'see' the drive?

Take care,

Nick

Yeah, its an SCSI drive and it is supported by the MPC.....it also comes up on my screen, but that's about all I can tell you....I don't know a whole hell of a lot about this technical stuff. I know when I put in a zip disk it loads it automatically.....but it doesn't when I switch to the CD-R. I tried following the directions in the manual but I must not be doing something right.......man, there is a lot to learn about this thing.

Hey,

Good, we've ruled out the problem of the MPC not seeing the drive.

Maybe the problem is with the cd-r disc itself...

Does ANYTHING show up when you try to access the drive with a cd-r in it? Like the name of the disk, any folder/program names, etc.? Or does it simply not recognize that a disc has even been inserted?

On my Emu sampler, when I put a cd-r into the drive and try to access it, it shows me a list of all the folders and files on the disc, much like in Windows. I have to dig around a little in the folders before I come to the programs, which I then load into RAM.

Take care,

Nick

is it a 2000 or the 2000XL the old 2000 wouldnt read those cd you have to get mpc editor its a prog. that converts the wav. sounds on the cd to snd. files because those CD's arent MPC format. it sucks.
