i got it a few days back. those who have reason 2.5 and are registered users, you can get the upgrade for around £60. but all i can say is whoa!!!!!!!! its heavy man, the combinator is ridiculous, ive already built up tons of custom patches which make production a whole lot quicker. the mastering tools in it a pretty good too, theyve added a nice responsive compressor and eq and limitor, pretty nice.

Ya, I got it last week. I never use Reason to its full potential. I basically make a sequence with the Redrum & Sound Modules, & then Track out into Pro tools. Im not a fan of thier audio engine. But for some reason (no pun intended) when I throw it in pro tools, it sounds bigger and better. The combinator & Browser is the only thing I like about this new version...I like the fact I can play the sound before actually loading it into the soundmodules (genuis!). but I have never used the Mastering stuff & probably never will, I save that for Pro tools & Waves! But Reason is definitley Dope!! Especially when you got tons of refills....not only that I've converted all my akai disk into Refills! Mo sounds, Mo sounds, Mo sounds!!!!
my 2 pennys worth...

You can use CD Xtract to convert Akai programs ro NNXT files. The program cost about $140, but, you can get it.......****This is in no way implying you should pirate the program****

As for Reason 3.0, I'm hearing horror stories from cats that use Reason the way I do. I'll stick to 2.5 until they fix the bugs.

I use RELOAD to Convert my Akai disk. Propellerheads makes this as well. Once you convert use the NNXT to play the multisampled instruments from your akai disk......Simple.

Ya...Thats all Pro tools & Waves.. and Read a Few books on Mixing & Mastering. The best book by far is " Mastering Audio, the art & the science." by Bob Katz. All I use is the Mbox. I have a Triton LE, that I only use for a Controller! basically sequence in Reason, shoot to Pro tools, then add live instrumentation on it, & vocals if any. I love working this way....beacause I have artist that come in for beats & when they choose one they usually pay me to Record right there. I then just throw on the track from Reason on an Aux channel, Record all the vocals over the beat. then go back and track everything out & mix down without feeling rushed. That way I dont waste time. if that makes any sense.
anyways thanks CampO, I take that as a compliment....Im still trying to up my mixing skills everyday.
Peace out!

yeah, I've just got Reason 3.0 aswell, it isn't that much different from 2.5.
I know that combinator is gonna come in use and the output sounds coming out, sound much more crisp.
In 2.5 the output sound was a bit flat and thin, it was like you could always spot a song that was made in Reason. But it looks like they sorted that out.

Reason Review
I love reason, but 3.0 wasn't much of an improvement.
Refills- Dope. The new nnxt multi-samples are amazing
Combinator- This thing allows you to save a bunch of reason instruments together and play them as one instrument. Maybe a time saver if their is some complicated set up you find yourself using a lot...but kinda pointless
Browser- Best new feature. As you browse through the refills you can play them with your keyboard, which is really useful for finding the right sound. It also has a search feature ie. search Bells, and all the refills with bells come up. It also lets you search through the refills regardless of instrument, and then opens the right instrument for the patch you selected. Very cool.
Mastering- Too limited to actually be used for serious mastering. Maybe if you wanted a quick fix. Something like Izotope Ozone blows it out of the water, and there are many people who would say Izotope isn't really a great master suite either. The different elements of the mastering suite however can be used as effects on instruments. Specifically the compressor is much more full featured than the one in previous versions. It has advanced features like a side chain and a soft knee. I have also used the mastering equalizer on instruments with nice results.
Overall- Reason is dope, as far as this update...nothing that exciting.
^^ Sound Engine Fix (not the new sounds) but the Fix on the Actuall Engine was well worth it in my eyes.. thats all i was looking for too was the new Engine..

If you have Reason 2.5 it's not worth it to upgrade. If you don't, get it, it's a tight learning tool and a step below Cubase + VSTs.
