i know this is just a general question, but maybe you can help me.

Right now I am running Windows XP Professional. Everything is working nicely and I am absolutely happy with it. I am about to install a new mainboard and a new cpu to my computer and since my system is very stable right now and I definitely donīt want to reinstall everything īcause it would take years. I would like to use my current windows with the new hardware as well.
But I am worried if XP will work with the new components. I am wondering if I can just remove the drivers in the device manager, shut down xp, install the new hardware, start up xp and it will find the new hardware? Is that possible? Any advice is welcome ...

It should be possible. Don't know if there is a need to remove the drivers from the device manager first. XP is good in that sense that it "thinks" for itself and finds drivers etc automatically. Only trouble is, if it doesn't fint it automatically...sometimes it just won't no matter what you do.

That's what XP does. You shut it down, install your stuff, boot it up, and it SHOULD recognize it. You should check the sites for the hardware components you want to install and check to make sure their drivers work with XP. Also check the Microsoft site just in case. If there is a problem, you don't want to be stuck looking for drivers at that point, it's better to have them ready in case.

Just be aware that even though XP "thinks" for itself...it doesn't always think correctly and my friend has problems with XP accepting drivers for new PC hardware where XP drivers were included.
