If it is just sitting there you can see a low level hum slightly moving the vu meter. If you fiddle with it it gives that god awful staticky noise that kkkkccckkkckkckc ckkkck ckkck sound (nah mean?).. Someone suggested blowing an aircan into the 1/4" input there but is there anything else I should do to fix this? Thanks.

Sounds like a bad cable maybe. Have you tried a different one?

Suggestion
If you get it cleaned out and it works again, buy a patchbay, they are designed to take wear-load off of the main's jackplate. Saves you money in the long run. Don't use TT, use TRS, TinyTelephone was only devised because patchbays used to have like 40 connections going on, there's plenty of room for the cheaper and sturdier TipRingSleeve unless you are recording symphonies or have a plethora of analog outboard gear.
