First let me thank you for taking the time to sit with IllMuzik again, October will make two years. What’s been going on since?

Thanks for having me again!!! Since the last time we met I have been pretty busy with a few things on the DJ tip traveling, studying and analyzing the game so I can create a bigger lane for myself to run through.

You rep Brooklyn to the fullest! Tell me why you put it on for your city the way you do?

Bushwick Brooklyn to be exact. NY is the foundation of this hip hop culture. I feel I got to rep it even more now because NY has been losing its identity for the past few years to everything from music to fashion. There was a point in time where people outside of NY was trying to sound like and copy whatever was going on in NY. Now it’s just reversed NY is doing everything everybody else is doing and not being NY. It’s time for NY to return to its old form.

Relic

Relic has been involved in the rap game for a number of years, representing North Carolina. With skills on the microphone as well as behind the boards, Relic takes a time out to let us know a bit more about him.

Rumor has it you’re 548 years old, is that true?

Ya Fade pretty much ha-ha, I think I have been doing hip-hop since before a lot of these new producers were born. I remember *gets all nostalgic* back circa ’86-’87 sitting around with my boys laughing and talking about one day being a grandparent and then we would be the ones bitching about how hip-hop sucked and “That’s not hip-hop, back in MY day you had hip-hop!” and that has all come to pass ha-ha.

You formed RIP back in 1988, that’s older than some people reading this, how does that make you feel?

Very true to the art form and life style, I fell in love with hip-hop back in ’83 and after a very short courtship married her midnight 1-1-84 and we have been tight ever since. We played Run DMC’s “Rockbox” at the wedding, I believe then it was Sucker MC’s and then some Newcleus later. I was pissin off the neighbors at a young age. I do this music because I love it, if we blow up cool, if not, I’m still married. (more…)

20Syl Portrait

Outside of France 20Syl (real name: Sylvain Richard) is mostly known for his amazing beatmaking tutorial he posted on Youtube. However, in his home-country he’s an underground legend. Being a Deejay, emcee and producer, 20Syl is a real triple threat. He’s the lead emcee/producer for acoustic Hip Hop Group Hocus Pocus and part of C2C, a turntablist crew that won 4 DMC titles from 2003 to 2006. C2C also won an ITF title in 2005. Furthermore, 20Syl has produced for many big name rappers in France: Diam’s, Disiz La Peste, Kohndo, Fabe, Scred Connexion, Nakk and Sully Sefil.

Sylvain Richard was born and grew up in Nantes, Western France. In 1996, while attending high school he teamed up with emcee Cambia to form Hocus Pocus. Functioning as an emcee/producer-dj duo, they released a mix-tape the same year entitled “Première Formule” which went largely unnoticed.
