Description
The Away Team is a compilation album featuring all of the artists that I'm currently working with. At first I was gonna name the album "The Home Team" because who doesn't wanna play at home? Teams play hard all year 'round to get home court advantage in the playoffs. But when I started to think about it, I don't feel like we're treated like the home team. I feel like cats front on me and the peoples on my team... and for what? EVERY LAST ONE OF US ARE NICE AT WHAT WE DO!
So why front? So when it was time for me to name the album, I just happened to be watching Reggie Miller's 30 for 30 ESPN special and I LOVED how Reggie talked about going into the Garden and silencing the whole state of New York. And that's how I feel cause I'm gonna LOVE it when we silence all of the labels, blogs, sites, critics, etc. who have fronted on us at one time or another.
I put this compilation together to help promote all of the featured artists and the projects that they're currently working on. All of these songs featured on this compilation are either on the albums that each artist are working on or are tracks off of one of my Through the Wire Instrumental series albums.
Biography
Philadelphia music producer and writer Kil has been a hip hop head since 1984, when his mother took him to see the movie Beat Street. That movie started his love, passion and pursuit of the hip hop culture, where he began writing rhymes in 1984 and started Djing in 1986 when he got his two turntables, a mixer and a mic. Daily, Kil would practice his craft whether it was break dancing, DJing or MCing, his commitment to hip hop was undeniable.
It wasn't until his freshmen year at Morgan State University where he truly found his place in hip hop - producing. Starting off with a Tascam 4 track recorder and a Gemini 8 second sampler mixer, then, graduating to the Ensoniq ASR-10 keyboard to now mastering the Akai MPC 2000XL, Kil's style has grown from being just a beat maker to becoming a complete music producer. Also, while attending Morgan State, Kil hosted Baltimore's 1 hip hop show "Strictly Hip Hop" on WEAA 88.9 FM every Friday night from midnight to 5am for over 5 years.
Kil has produced for such artists as:
- Former Hydra Records signee K Fanat (producing his entire debut album "Right Back At It")
- Osei Morland (acclaimed MC and Producer)
- Queens MC, Sekani (writer of MTV's Hip Hopera "Carmen")
- Kyana (Kil produced "Promised Land" off her debut CD "We Will Not Fall")
- C. Clear (Kil produced 4 tracks off her debut CD "A Soldier's Story")
- Brooklyn MC, Vegas (producing his entire album "The Grey Area" and is currently recording the follow up "You're All Welcome")
- Philadelphia MC, Driz Lo (producing his entire album "The Missing Element" dropping 2011)
- Baltimore MC Lunchboxx (producing his entire album "The Discipline" dropping 2011)
As well as working with talented songwriters such as:
- Sean "Mocha" Banks (Dru Hill, Black Buddafly)
- Tanya Kilpatrick
Kil also produced "Rude Bastards" for critically acclaimed hip hop group M.O.P. for their 5th official studio album "Foundation".
