@MuzikMakerz I Am Led To Believe The Actual Term Comes From A KRS One Album But Over The Years Has Established Itself As A Subgenre Of The East Coast Sort Of Purist Turntablism With A Lo-Fi Charm But Contrary To The Break Beat Fast Tight Drums Has More Of A Texture Type Percussion In The Way Of Wet Kicks & More Patient Slow-ish Snare Thing Going On & A Not Overly Complicated Musical Arrangement More In The Way Of A 4-8 Bar Sample Snatch At A Nice Steady Mid 80's 90's Tempo I Like Boom Bap To Sound Grey & Give My Minds Eye A Picture Of Rain In A Concrete Jungle But I'm Sure That There's Better Explanation Somewhere ....I THINK IT'S A REFERENCE TO THE DRUM SOUNDS THE BOOM BEING THE KICK & THE BAP BEING THE SNARE Eg. BOOM BAP BA-BOOM BOOM BAP BABA-BOOM BAP BA BOOM BOOM BAP o_O:wtf::confusedphones:

lol. Maybe its just me but if you want that "sampled" sound then why not call the theme just that?

@MuzikMakerz, He is talking about a sample snatch like something to lay on top of the beat..jazz piano , guitar, horns vinyl samples. It's not about just sampled sounds, it's about the beat. I really can't believe I'm even explaining this to a beatmaker. I mean the boom bap hip hop beats are like beatmaker 101..if you make your beats...if you're looping beats then that explains to me a little of why you don't know what boom bap is..but if you make your beats..then everyone with a drum machine has made a boom bap beat..but I could be wrong...

I Imagine It's Cos Boom Bap Generally Refers More To The New York Type Style Of Hip-Hop Where As Sampled Could Lend Itself To Almost Any Genre Of Music. But That's Just My Interpretation Of What It Is I'm By No Means An Expert Or Authority On Genre .I Was A Bit Unsure On The Specs Of This TBH But I Just Went With What I Thought A Boom Bap Track Should Sound Like

no no no no. Your not understanding what im saying. Im asking why leave room for interpretation. I understood what you probably meant but i didnt want any confusion when i submit my track. No your not explaining to me what the genre is and no ive never used a drum machine and never plan to. Im a musician that makes music. Not everyone relies on them believe it or not. Ill submit my version of "boom bap" and have some fun

@MuzikMakerz Dude With All Due Respect Interpretation Is The Foundation Of Music That's What Were All Doing We Have Gathered Our Influences Over The Years (Which All Vary) & Now We Put Those Influences Into Our Respective Instruments & Put Our Own Personal Touch On Them Thus Our Interpretation Is Born , I Don't Think There Be Any Hard-Line Rules Set In Stone It's Like @DEEZ BEATZ Said It's About The Beat ,The Interpretation Is The Interesting Part (That Is So Profound & Deep I'm Getting That Tattooed On My Back)

I didn't understand @MuzikMakerz point/question however will say the following:

I am not sure how @DEEZ BEATZ understands the term "beat maker" but I associate it with being a studio/home musician who is simply creating and recording plain instrumental music regardless of the music genre. If this is the case than I wouldn't find it strange not to be familiar with the Boom Bap style. (This is from a European point of view. I am not sure if native Americans associate the term with Hip-Hop directly, you tell me :))

Now.. if you are somehow involved into Hip-Hop and rap music in general and you are not familiar with the Boom Bap style I would say that you are just ignorant for not familiarizing yourself with the culture itself and all the sub-genres/elements involved throughout the years which led to this exact point of time.

Peace.

@Radin BR Music , thanks.. that's what I meant. And yes in the US that is the norm having home studios and making beats..hardly anybody really uses a big studio to record unless your doing vocal or have a band. So beatmaker is the term we use for people who make beats.. it's not a real classification of skill set...a lot of your big hip hop producers can work out of their home...Prince did all of his creations at home..and technology has made it all possible to work from home...I would rather be work in a big studio but it's too expensive...

 LOL, I submitted the wrong beat! :wtf:

To be honest, there are great beats there, and the battle is so so tight.. aand.. i need to say that im disappointed from those trap beats..

I hear you, a lot of the entries missed the theme. ( including me )

Some of the beats stood out to me cause of their chopped up samples.
Sadly, There are also some dope beats that aren't BoomBap.

Still a great turnout! Good job everyone! :up2:

wow, this is interesting. i'm confused by some entries...some are trap and some are WTF??? But mainly i'm hearing a lot of horrible sound quality on quite a few of these submissions...I guess BOOM BAP is dying cause some don't know the difference between BOOM BAP AND TRAP(or they don't care..and that really sucks) out of 30 tracks i believe only 10 beats are actually worth listening to. well i'm totally disappointed in the lack of skills when it comes to the themed competitions....why bother submitting a track that is not related to the theme..your track will get skipped over, talked about and ridiculed. so what's the point of submitting. you know there are a lot of informative videos on this site on how to make, mix and edit beats, there are a lot on good stuff on this site...please take advantage...i never have many negative things to say..but my cup has runneth over with with some of the lack of music knowledge....sorry just couldn't keep my opinions to myself anymore:mad:

Wish I could have entered something this time but Im still not liking my stuff too much. I made a beat but ended up not uploading. Hope more battles pop up like this one and I can get involved a bit more, there's quite a few I liked. Good job everyone!

@Bugsy , that sucks bruh...cause i know you can bring that boom bap heat.. at least you have a legitimate excuse...but bruh i'm a little disappointed..not in the turn out, that's cool. it's just why do some people submit something that's not the theme?
