yo i'm looking into a digital mixing console for Cubase SL/SX, something that accepts both audio and midi, and is totally customizable with my cubase, meaning that it can control faders, do remote mixing, stuff like that. I'm looking into a couple of options, like the Yamaha 01X, and the Edirol UR80, later is cheaper, but i don't think it has what i want. has anyone out there have any suggestions. Something price effective too but it has to have ability to accept audio in 1/4inch, midi routing, as well as completely interated to DAWs like cubase.

check out some of the new stuff that was in NAMM 04.

You can review it at www.harmony-central.com and www.soncistate.com

I personally want to get the Roland VS-2000 w/vga output to compliment my Behringer DDX3216 digital mixer.

BTW....if you have 1000 (usd) bones to spend...checkout the Behringer DDX3216. It can double as a DAW and full automation capable with digital and optical connections...it the best bang for the buck as far as affordable digital mixers. And it rugged for traveling. http://www.ddx3216.com/

I should be getting paid for all this advertising..hehe.

Well, for what you're looking for, there's a lot of products, and unfortunately, a lot of crap. The problem with a lot of these units is lack of headroom and horrible pre-amps. (You can bypass them if your unit has an insert jack, but most of the budget ones don't.)

Stay away from Behringer and Roland. You'll hate yourself later when you hear someone with a Mackie 1201 making better mixes. (And spending $500 less than you.)

Depending on what your hardware/software setup is and your budget, there's a few ways you can go- here are a few pointers:

If budget isn't an issue, get the damn Sony DMX R100. It's one of the best out there, but hey, I didn't say it was cheap. (It has less than 100ms delay from input to computer back to mixer to monitor of the audio signal!)
You're probably going to be looking at the same things I am at the moment, I'm in-between a Tascam DM-24 or a used Yamaha 02R. The Yamaha used to be broadcast standard, but the sound quality is not something everyone wants... The Tascam is nice too, it even has the ability to send 24 chn's of audio in/out of your computer without an interface, but the pre-amps fucking suck (meaning the overall price is going to come up) and you can only control 8 software faders; however, you do have automation on the board itself. (Which is very good.)

Honestly, if you don't have a lot of outboard gear, a small analog mixer and a fader box might be a better solution- if your budget is tight, I'd suggest:

Mackie 1201, 1401, or 1604VLZ mixer (depending on your channnel needs.)
Evolution Midi fader/pot controller
M-Audio interface, maybe a Quattro, don't worry about the lack of pre's, that's what the Mackie is there for.

Any questions, just feel free to PM me...
