The oktava mods sounds great, now doubt.

Will this replace a real U87? NO WAY!

It does sound great and is well worth doing!

We got a pair MK012's there and were modded by Mr Joly, great stuff for a nice price. You cant ever compare to a classic U87 but an NT to sounds this good is hard to pass up.

damn... i mite hafta make that happen then... its funny that i would consider it, my NT1000 sounds great, and everyone that has them say the same... but every review ive read about the mods say they sound even better!! i mite just buy an NT1a and just send that one out... damn, u bastards have been holdin out! lol

eh, dont think most cats here would even look that far lol. Rode makes very nice mics due to their choice of electronics (high end components), this is what makes them a great choice for modding.
That aside, they do sound good coming out of the factory but this mod is aimed more at clearing excessive highs from the mic which results in a better transparent mid which brings out vocals a bit better.

Try a second hand one lol, CL bargain. Ours are oktava's which we use for overheads, funny enough they get replaced by Nuemann tlm's if we want better but just compare the pricetags...

i just checked his poll and 52% thinks the Rode is the u87... just goes to show u, a good mix with music and vocals can be a good substitute for cheaper equipment.. i might just get an NT1A just for this.

Just so you know they do the same mod to the nt1000 too. If you look on his website it says towards the bottom the rode models they do the mod to and the nt1000 is one of them. I've had their oktava 319 mod done to my mic and it does make a difference especially in the highs (nowhere near as harsh.) but one thing I'm a little stumped on is why they are shooting it out with a u87 when the capsule they are modding the rode with is a u47 clone???

good question.. i wish he wouldve also had an unmodded NT1A in the poll, so i could really gauge the difference of that as well... as far ar the NT1000 mod, i'd rather not touch the one i have, and just buy the NT1A and have that one modded.
