    The Bass VS The Kick

here's a little something that i found a while back...i've been using it for a minute, and it sounds pretty good to me: Kick 1. boost the lows on the kick (60-80Hz) 2. cut the low mids anywhere from 150Hz to 400Hz (sometimes called the mudrange) 3. boost the highs at around 3000Hz. This...

    External HardDrive + VSTs

probably not. the samples will work, but the vst won't...unless it's one of those vst's that's just a .dll that you copy to a folder (e.g. SR-202)

    the big reference.....

i'm kind of backwards here. i usually mix and master at the same time...i know i'm not supposed to do that, but fuck it, whatever works for you. most people usually save this for the mastering stage though.

    how do you go about...

yeah, i just hit record in audition. if you have a regular dvd player (not one on the pc), you can also just run the outputs from the dvd player to the inputs on your computer and get it that way. the 1st way is quicker though.

    sampling drums?

    mono for me
  11. wrightboy

    recording vocals in mono?

vocals should always be recorded in mono, whether it's for rap, or anything else. that's just how it is. once you start adding reverb and delay and whatnot, you can convert it to stereo, and that's basically becuase those are stereo effects.

    Hearing the Lows

I say no sub, and nearfield monitors around 6". the nearfields will give you enough bass response, if they're big enough. i mix with a pair of 4" monitors right now (can't hear the bass response at all), and some headphones. always check your mix in the car if you can. the car reveals all of...

How can i stop Cool Edit from making .pk files?

options -> settings -> display under the peak files section. uncheck save peak files. this is on audition 1.5, so it may have changed slighty, but look in that section, you should be straight.

looking to get more into syncing acapellas to my beats

i usually get the original track, and find the bpm using that, then make the beat and put the acapella with it. the thing is, some mc's don't keep the beat throughout the whole track...i did one track with a scarface acapella...it was on point all the way until after the 1st hook....then all...
