    Clip. Saturate. Steal a decibel here and there everywhere you can in the mix. If you can make everything even a dB louder without incurring distortion or losing headroom, your loudness will start creeping up. Don't worry about 'gain staging', it's pretty irrelevant in regards to loudness...

    The thing to be clear with VSX.. When you monitor in normal headphones, you aren't hearing music necessarily so accurately to its reproduction still... also Slate VSX has several headphones modelled too. In Slate VSX it mimics (apparently very well) as if you were in an actual studio... so...

    Think the kick was already getting a little crunchy from some of the processing I had on it. So thought I'd keep it safe. Think it hit around -8 on the Loudest parts. Sometimes I think of pushing up my "everything but the drums" bus for louder overall... but concerned how much this will mess...
