Hi guys. Not very good in introductions, I'd say I'm an all-time music enthusiast, former bassist, occasional DJ, and bedroom producer that began manipulating sound from early childhood with a toy keyboard and a 4-track reel-to-reel tape recorder. Interested in music beyond genres and styles, from the loudest and most brutal to the most ethereal and relaxing, I have been quitting smoking for several years, I play chess whenever I can without becoming skilled, and I can balance on his hands for a short time. Born in Italy, I live between my country and the Dominican Republic.

I don't use any social actually, this is the bandcamp link: https://attila3.bandcamp.com/

Great music on your bandcamp, welcome to ill. Good to have you around.
Also, if I buy an album or two would it be okay to sample something. I'll give full credit and a cut of anything I make from them. Some highly sampleable stuff there.
Thank you, it’s nice to be welcomed like this. I’m here on the advice of a friend, and now I’m happy that there are a lot of remarkable things to listen to here, and I like that it’s very much a gathering of enthusiasts. The mechanism of battles, the idea of putting music in competition, I’m always a bit doubtful about. After all, it’s not a sport; in music, there’s room for even microscopic niches, but okay, it can be a way to build community, so that’s fine.

The issue of samples is complicated because I’ve never been quite clear on when their use violates copyright or not. Sometimes I even like that samples in a track are recognizable, for a reaction like: oh, here are Black Sabbath along with Nina Simone and Led Zeppelin! I also do covers, re-edits, and mash-ups. But I don’t ask for money. Covers, remixes, edits, and mash-ups are all free. If the rights holder were to ask me to, I would remove the tracks, or they could collect any (very unlikely) royalties, but I’m listened to by just a little over a dozen people, so… For the other faces, there’s the option to pay what you want, even zero. And if there are samples that are not "fair use," the same applies. The fact that I don’t charge for making music (I would almost pay to be listened to :)) gives me the freedom to follow this punk ethic, so to speak, without any guilt.

I think you and me will get along, I have a very similar outlook. I pay for this hobby, it doesn't pay me.

Thanks Fade

Thanks BC. I have given my availability, but I still don't understand how it works. Will I receive a notification of an available battle, or do I need to do something actively?
The availability is for beat fights only. It means somebody can challenge you to a one on one battle. They last 7 days to give people a.chance to vote.

"Beat This" is a battle that happens every 2 weeks. Sometimes it has a theme, sometimes it doesn't, so always check before making and entering a beat.

"Warzone" happens once a month, it doesn't usually have a theme but sometimes it might so once again always check before entering.

Most battles are limited to a beat that is 2 mins long, keep that in mind. Warzone happens over 4 days, after a day for submission of your beat. 4 days for four rounds of voting, with a final on the fourth day.

"Battle That" happens once a year and is also over 4 days, but you need 4.beats for that, one for each round. I think the beat size limit for this battle is 4 minutes.
Warzone is just one beat, so is beat this. Unless stated in the theme almost always 2mins beat length.
