i remember seeing a thread on here a while back...

i think it was called something like how much do your records cost.

i was disgusted, most of the yanks are saying that they spen 50p a record!

OMG 50p in oxfam would buy you a Englebert Humperdink record!

CHARITY SHOPs are wack here

i have to go to real record shops and spend at lest £5, AT LEAST! ($10)

to other UK diggers how much you spending for your gold?

my mate went to USA and said it was mint for digging. This is where it gets interesting and this si for the YANKs. now he said he was finding absolute mint samples, from basically original records, he said this was because they cost $20. now to us that aint shit really and i would be MORE THAN HAPPY to spend that, but to you yanks, do you see those records as "untouchable" because of the cost...

To be honest I live in the west midlands and in my nearest city 'Wolverhampton' there is a record shop called 'oldies' that sells ALL the old shit you could imagine. Its prices range from 50p - £5 ... so yeah I should count myself lucky...

I'm also in Leeds and I pay no more than a fiver, with that said I rarely buy a record -just- to sample. I like most kinds of music and I only sample from what I like. Unless it really is a charity shop record for a quid, then I may well buy just to get that sample.

Have you checked out the record shop in the Grand Arcade between New Briggate and Vicar Lane? That shop is stacked with all sorts of wax at good prices.

There is a record shop in Nottingham that is full of loads of stuff and it's really really cheap, but there's no turntables so you need your own if you want to listen.

Theres a place I got to round my way where I take my portable and plug in and check for stuff all saturday. Records range from £2 to £20 and this dude has lots of good stuff (cause he sells for other people too) and can find pretty much anything you need. I dont really bother going anywhere else except some times in the local paper or in The Loot you can see guys selling boxes of vinyl but prices vary lots for those..

Rob's Records - it's down a back alley in town. Little tiny scruffy shop but just filled with records! I fancy a trip down there after I finish uni actually!

Not sure exactly where it is but you could try an internet search or ask around in notts?

There isn't to many records stores around my way that sell vinyls as alot of the main ones have closed down in Sheffield. And there is only one in my town '' Chesterfield '' but that ain't selling nothing but trance & rap none of the old era's around 70-80s.

I don't know what your talking about, London is a gold mine. One store I go in I get records for £1, spend £30 and they give you £10 back. Some of the records I have seen go for £15 in other spots. You need to step your game up, not to sound like an ass hole but you should be on the hunt not complaining about it on the net.

If that is aimed at me which i think it was, i ain't even a sampler producer as i perfer to fully compose my beats without. I was just saying that most of the main stores around here have been closed or are soon to be, as for my vinyls i use the net such as ebay & discogs with me going for hard to find records with acapella's ect...

Who is complaining?

I was referring to the OP. Not you sorry for the confusion.

And reading what I said it came off a bit harsh, so apologies for that also.

out my way (Chelmsford) theres a record fair every month, thats about it. when i've saved up a bit i'll get on a train hed to london and see what i can find. all i know of is HMV and Zavvi though, lol. i'll have to do my research b4 going

In my job I deliver all around London, and also Chelmsford and Essex.
I have noticed a serious trend in record shops closing down.
I was surprised to see even Dub Vendor has now closed.
I havent done the digging rounds in the city for a while now, due to not djing anymore, but Im pretty sure most of the spots I used to go to are closed now.
The best place to dig is Charity Shops, its amazing what you can find in them. And the gems found will not cost a fortune to buy.
When you go to some rare groove specialists, they know the value of the records they sell, it can be harder to find a bargain at those places.
