This is great news.

So far, all anyone knows is that Technics will be releasing a new turntable in 2016. They showed a prototype here:

Now at first I'm wondering if this is going to be a fancy "record player", but this could just be a mock up of what they want to do. So it could very well be that they'll come out with a new 1200 or something similiar.

But how great would it be if they released a Technics 1200 MK7? That would be sick. Because I'm thinking, if they did that, everyone would want to buy it because it's still in high demand, and that's why there's been a few new turntables in recent years. There is a market for it, just not as big as it used to be.

However, this is a really good time for Technics to do this because not only is there a demand, but their name alone will drive customers to them. Also, they can finally give the customers what they want like self-grounded, detachable RCA and power, plus a wide pitch, etc. Who knows....

Anyway, here is what they've said so far:
  • Direct drive
  • Coreless stator design that eliminates cogging
  • Twin rotors that reduce bearing load and minimize tiny rotational fluctuations (wow & flutter), while maintaining high torque
  • Oil impregnated high-precision bearings that minimize unwanted vibrations during rotation
  • The redesigned direct drive motor control technology involves the following:
  • Spindle motor control technology that switches the stator winding drive mode according to operating conditions to provide both high starting torque and high rotational stability
  • Adaptive rotational control technology that achieves optimized compensation according to precision rotational position detection and load fluctuation factors
Let's cross our fingers!
