Beat Fight #427

I like to think that you reserved one of your most original and experimental beats just for me, even (almost) beatless. The intro is spectacular, and the retro cinematic atmosphere is delightful. How you manage to be so prolific while always maintaining such quality remains a mystery. I'm trying, though, guys, let me come up with some excuses. This week you challenged me with six - I have two left: @Iron Keys (already working on that) @DJ Excellence (soon, bro) -, and I also wanted to make a crime beat...

Love how involved you've been since joining @attila keep at it!

But I didn't really want to take on all these challenges, I'm even doing some weaker stuff than usual just to not fall behind. And that Kendrick-themed one? I only did it so you wouldn't call me a pussy.

If instead of imagining Ill as the place where I deliver my work, I see it more as a guide to find a path, there's some truth to that: in terms of hip hop, I used to do all sorts of things quite abundantly, but now being here has somehow forced me to search for a sound that is my own. If you notice, the latest beats (the ones I think turned out well) all have often something ironic and always a bit messy about them.

I'm trying to drain all the pride and seriousness in favor of irony (and post-modernism? lol), which aren't very hip hop, I fear. I mean, I'm not a native speaker, so I might make mistakes, but I don't think 'dope' can be attributed to beats like that either, maybe I just can, if I can, aim for 'quirky'.

@JECHO - when James Cameron finally decides to jump back in and direct an Aliens sequel, this intro should be part of that score. I've never really dived into 'horror-core' hip-hop. While I appreciate dark, menacing beats ( a la Havoc and Alchemist) this style of "dark" has always been beyond me. Which is a shame, because it's fucking dope. The only thing lacking is a conventional drum pattern. I can hear a gritty, conventional break sitting nicely under this, or...dare I say...trap style drums? Either way, great tone, texture, and vibe.

@attila - As always, great sample choice. You have a great ear for bounce and groove. Mix, as usual, is pretty good. If I can make an over-arching statement on your music...you rely too much on vocal samples to tell the story. Nothing wrong with that, it's part of your style. I just found the porno "uh" to be a bit gimmicky. Again, mostly just a personal taste. Otherwise a really cool beat. I feel like you write "songs" rather than "beats" which is really cool. I quite like the reggae vocal chops and the transitions.

Dear @BiggChev, you areright: I rarely make beats as "unfinished" music where a rapper could jump on, especially if I don't have an acapella in mind from the beginning. I'm trying to create instrumentals, that's why all thise vocals samples BUT , however, I was just thinking that sometimes I should not draw attention away from the music with too much, sometimes It could be better avoid them.

That "uh", downloaded from a Kendrick Lamar sample kit, btw, should not sound porno in my mind, but unfortunately, it does sound that way.

Then when the Jamaican voice came in, i was like, ok this is dope
Loving how you put different variations inside of it, imo you grown alot with your craft! Very nice to listen to!
