The drums/percussion are there to keep movement and rhythm, not necessarily to hit hard like boom bap or trap drums. In hip hop, the kick and snare are often one of the main focal points of the song. In bachata, the percussion usually supports the guitars rather than dominates them.

A good way to think about it:

Hip hop drums = punch, knock, attitude
Bachata drums/percussion = swing, bounce, dance feel

I get what you mean. I was judging it from a hip hop battle perspective where drums usually knock more. But I see the groove approach you went for
