Whats going on with that? I'm not asking admin or the usuals who compete. I'm asking anyone else who meets the requirements but won't get in? Why aren't you guys submittig beats? I hear DOPE ish in the Showcase all the time so I know that you guys are capable. Whats up? Why don't you compete?

Hey, I signed up and submitted a beat. Ill just hold on to it until next year "lord willin", as my pops say.

Oz and DOX - I consider you guys regulars, you both show participation maybe not ALL the time but it's obvious y'all are heads. There are also a few others, y'all know who you are.
Relic - you hardly ever compete but you have competed before. You do your part in other areas so no complaints with you. The way I see it, you and 2Good are the only 2 mods that even make a presence. 2Good has dropped off a lot lately but personally I and I'm sure others that know you understand your reasons why. Kontents has also proved to be a very good mod but we rarely hear from him. The rest I can't really comment on because you guys may be contributing your @$$es off behind the scenes...idk!?!?!? and don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking y'all at all.
lion - you have really up'd your game and relevancy around here lately and thats so cool that I feel like you are doing your part in other areas as well, so nobody can really knock it that you don't compete. I wish you would get into that area because I know you would be a strong contender but I understand.
I'm more curious why no newbies that meet the requirements enter? I know some of the old heads feel like they've graduated from doing contests and my response to them is simply "whatever!"...lol.
We also have seasoned cats that make dope beats but don't get in. Why?
What about you cats that hide behind the scenes? The ones that you see when you sign in and it shows...7 members and 58 guests online? I mean why not be accountable and relevant to the boards and comps? I'm sure that most of you are here getting info on improving your game but thats nothing compared to actually getting involved, it's not all about winning - it's more about standing up and saying "check my ish out", it's more about supporting what the site has to offer and so on...
Think about it as if you were the site administrator, you put all these tools out there but then have to turn around and cancel ish because of "not enough entries?" and yet you have ALL these members? That ish would really suck in your mind. It will also give you the impression that nothing you do is working which eventually will force you to stop doing anything.
Personally, I like the comps. I'm sure that anyone with a B! will tell you that it is one of the best confidence boosters on this site. Even getting voted for helped me because that meant that somebody thought I had the best beat...win or lose, they voted for me! Thats a good @$$ feeling. Don't take my word though, try it and see for yourself.

Maybe it's time to remove the 50 post thing. Originally it was there because there were too many entries! And it was to give people the incentive to participate in the forum instead of just signing up to the site, compete and never come back. But at this point it seems like the vets are busy with other things so maybe it's time for the young cats to step up and take charge.

Drop it to 25 posts, there needs to be a limit and that would still give people incentive to join the community. Man I remember thinking "I will never get 50 posts" ha ha
Not to be a hater, but I dont think dropping the number of post required to participate in "Beat This" will matter. I think it has more to do with the theme's (which i like). Some people have great tracks but as soon as you handcuff them to a theme they have a brain freeze. "Christmas Theme, what the hell am i going to do for that?, Ill wait for the no theme "Beat This"."

yea I agree with that. I got nothin for a Christmas theme. and honestly I never will.
I agree there should be a limit, I feel like theres a lot more to illmuzik than just the B! competition and dropping the 50 post requirement would only favor the comp and not the boards. I like the idea of getting involved on the boards first. Plus with the amount of great information thats available, they shouldn't mind making 25 - 50 posts as a requirement. I mean we had around 30 competitors for the Battle That and over half of them I never knew existed. I've seen other boards with a low minimum post requirement (10 post min.) that offer very little on the technical side of music production and it's nothing but chaos and havoc trying to get the level of help as we do here.
Say whatever but we have integrity here, it's a very attractive part of our community that we should maintain at all cost imo. I remember the days when you could step away from your computer, come back 20 minutes later and there would be "new responses" in just about every forum. Granted, hip hop has fallen off from those days but that only leaves room for newbies and seasoned heads to step up which isn't happening now. We really need that.

I pretty much went missing so long to focus more on my skills and get acquainted with equipment coming in. There was a point that I realized that my mind was further than my reality. Actually, I have a hot line about that in a song, anyway off track of what i was originally thinking.
Hearing some the past entry's, I'm thinking maybe I will take part. Doesn't strike me as the traditional beat selection of the traditional battle circuit. Thats why I don't beat or rap battle, cause I recognize that its a specific type and don't wanna be like Jeremy Steward booking the x-games and breaking something lol. Still, I got madddddd respect for it.

Good ideas but my concern with these would be... the person with 10 million friends would have so much more favor, I don't think it would matter who had the dopest beat. At the same time, that can easily happen with the judging system that we have now...
So on that note, I think that only a panel of those "non-illmuzik" featured cats that we see mostly on the home page should judge. Think about that, they, (for the most part) are getting something from us but what are we getting from them? Props to Kil because he is the only one that I see truely giving back to the site. Why not atleast be a judge? Some of them even have serious contacts in the biz and could possibly open bigger doors. Just a thought but I'm down for whatever.
