The compliments that @BiggChev made to @MicroDotCotton also apply to this piece. For its hypnotic character - I'm a fan of this smoky stuff - I don't mind that the variations are subtle here, and the obsessive repetition actually works. When it ended, I was disappointed because I would have gladly listened to more. However, I didn't like the fade-out ending. For the rest, applause.2 dope entries.
@BiggChev I hear the Still Dre countermelody. Drums are banging and the melody is dope. Love the countermelody coming in.
@MicroDotCotton nice chill melody and good drum game as well. The bass supports the beat well.
Actually now I want to admit that at the end I voted for you. But hey, @MicroDotCotton I voted for you in the other fight you're active right now. Very balanced flights these days, do you agree?Appreciate the commentary @attila
Sorry to upset you and your little finger...but if you dissect the beat, it follows a very traditional Verse/Chorus/Verse structure...hence why the horns (chorus) is only for 8 bars.
I agree the beat is repetitive...but again I was going for that traditional song structure and envisioned someone rapping on it.
@Kane the MOD - good catch on the melody. I was trying to get that shimmery piano sound from Still Dre. Of course the intent wasn't to lift it completely. Ironically, back when I made this I was trying really hard to tap into that dark/jazzy/boom-bap sound of 90s NYC hip-hop
WiseAppreciate the vote.
I do think the Beat Fights are a bit more balanced now. Partly because people are matching styles of sorts. I know Micro has that boom-bap chill jazzy vibe (with a dark edge), so I picked this beat specifically for his style.
Or in the case of my battle with @TWU , while I know he goes more soulful, I do know he likes to chop and layer samples. So, I picked that beat...also because he sample snitched on me lol
