    Twofer

Part 1: +love the percussion. The loose groove of it really elevates this beat! +The vocal crooner sample is also super dope -That dissonant piano doesn't vibe with me. It's not too abstract to sound entirely out of place, but enough to take me out of the listening experience. Just a personal...

“Meet The Loons” Boom Bap with Creepy A.I film in 1950s style

getting some Jedi Mind Tricks vibe from this. Very interesting sample, and equally as interesting use of it. Is that reversed piano/guitar serving as the pad sound? This is weird in all the best ways. I like the simplicity, and sparseness of the elements. Everything fits nicely in place...

    Dark Boom Bap Beat

Here's a quick little throw-away beat from earlier tonight. Got to digging through some records and found two cool chops that I thought would fit well together. Some strings/horns and flutes. Chopped, stretched and tuned the chops. Added some pianos, NI Glaze and bass. Nothing special, but...

Stop using reverb on your snare.

It definitely helps with control! I've typically only ever had a drum bus and then mid-side EQ for the master channel. But playing around with Bus sends has proven to really support a more surgical mix. Another concept I like is having several different levels of Sidechain/Pump Compression...

The state of beat making in 2023

Beat making is at the "Wonderwall" Phase... ...just like every college kid who's only ever touched a guitar a few times knew how to play Wonderwall; we live in a era where any teenager with an internet connection can make beats. Hell, tablet or smartphone! While annoying, this isn't an...

Stop using reverb on your snare.

This is a cool idea, but I'll offer an alternative. Snare -> Send Bus Snare Channel: Transient shaping for punch (compressor + EQ) Send Bus: Reverb Compressor side-chained to the original snare channel This allows you to preserve the snap of the snare and get the space from the verb.

    My first finished beat

Nothing lame about making a "First Attempt." There are LOTS of people that don't have the stones to share the nascent versions of their art! Good for you for looking for feedback. Don't think of what's "wrong" but rather "areas of opportunity." Is this a "good" beat? No. lol. Are there...

Don't hate me but you're not what I thought u was...

FIRE! Love the grit of this piece. All the elements compliment each other, and the overall sound, very well. Song structure is great - starting from the intro which serves to capture attention quickly and efficiently. This is that "Progressive North American Grime Rap" I expect from you...

The Place | Prod. Slime Green Beats

love the plucky 80s style synth to open. Great use of effects (verb, delays) to create atmosphere. That low squared off bass synth carries a ton of character! It's also very well placed in the mix. Asuy far as "alternative hip-hop" goes this is right up there. Automation on point. Drums...

Fusion/Remix - Slipknot cover flipped to an alt rock rap beat

One of my fav metal songs! Good example of adding a hip-hop groove to a none hip-hop song. Hella vibes, but the chops/loops sound a but lazy to me? I get that you are trying to preserve the essence and harmonic quality of the song, but I think you also coulda gone "full retard" with the...

My latest rap rock beat, welcome all feedback!

first impressions are: "very hypnotic" I've listened to enough of your beats to really appreciate the grittiness of your sound selection (particularly the drums). They make for a great foundation and juxtaposition to the smoother/cleaner elements (i.e. the chorus). This is perplexing to...

A beat for an intense/emotional song about mental health...

The use of chinas/splashes/rides is great. Not sounds you hear in typical hip-hop beats. That clipping kick has sooo much character/meat/phatness...but maybe not for this tune? For me a boomy kick that matches the verbed out snare would go much further in encapsulating the rock vibe of this...

Belly of the Beast - I need a critic plz

Preface: I'm not a fan, at all, of trap.... ...That being said the kick doesn't fit to me. An 808/909 or something a bit more analog sounding would fit nicer with the trap style drums. Otherwise, the beat itself is great. Serves the song. Strings sound great. I hear some chimey piano pieces...

    Uplift Prod. By WaLi_RaW_BeatZ

I can hear Nas spitting some serious knowledge on this. Loving the percussion elements and the way you chopped that guitar bend. My, very knit-pick, critiques are: Snare is a bit too loud and obtrusive for my liking. That crisp, white noise snare sounds dope, but maybe a more laid back rim...

    Chill Hip-Hop Beat

Thanks for the feedback @Kane the MOD. Admittedly, drums are typically my weak point. I'll usually program a simple groove to write to, but then get stuck on how to liven them up. Additionally, I'm very wary of them either being TOO loud or out of place compared to the other elements in the song.

    Cold Messing Around

I absolutely love Maschine! My go to bass patch is "Trees" which is a stock preset in Massive. Great for subs.

    Piano + Heavy Metal Guitar??!!

Hey man, "if you're not over-doing it, you're not doing it right!" lol Listened to a couple of your other beats and really like your rock+boom bap style. Keep the great tunes coming!

    Somebody Told Me

Nice! How you like Cubase? I used it religiously years ago, but now I'm just Maschine+Logic Pro Great that your stretching yourself and experimenting with new sounds. I find it's easy to fall into a cycle of making the same types of beats repeatedly because the sound selection palette never...

    Piano + Heavy Metal Guitar??!!

To @Kane the MOD point, there is a bit too much dist/saturation on the drums. As beefy as the kick is, dialling back the processing good give it some more depth and punchy. Distortion at a point ultimately flattens the sound. T he snare sounds great though. Especially the little snare roll in...
