Sample your drums from vinyl and go digging. That is most of the sound. Second the MPC60 and SP1200 are 12bit machines and that does impart some grit, but I know Damu and Pete rock use a MPC2k and those are 16bit. It really sound like you need to go digging!
Well first off, work on your training and learn keys, scales ETC
Second you CAN filter out the bassline from your sample, and then play around on the keyboard until the notes dont clash and you have a nice groove.

8 certainly performs faster than 7 on the same hardware, but this metro UI thing is hard to get the hang of.
Well, my main windows DAW just took a major dump and I need to reload. I needed to go to 64bit anyway, so here goes nothing. Win8 in a production environment. I will let you know how it goes.
