    you might want to look at a midi controller. that's if you plan on using vst's. can use it standalone, but as long as you're hooking into the computer, or a sound module, you're good. i picked up an 88 key m-audio for $199.

    i would save a dry version of all of your tracks, and then make copies and do destructive editing. this way, there's no strain on your cpu.

    i'd go with the software. i have the proteus x, and it's the shit. sounds modules cost too much. my boy has the proteus 2000 module, and the proteus x has all of those sounds, plus some extra. and the big thing is, they sound damn near identical to the module. if not identical.

    i usually put some verb on my snare and my claps. occasionally i'll add a small amount of verb to the overall finished track. make it subtle enough that you barely hear the verb.
