    Man, I have an Intel Quad core and I load up Wave SSL on each channel in Pro tools (30+ tracks) and a master buss as well as Eleven and TL space and it doesnt kill my CPU. I mean I can push it, but it is all still usable.

    But you can plug a mic in to any of the inputs that's why they are mic/ OR line inputs The basic rule is if you see an xlr jack you can plug a mic in to it. If you can plug a mic in to it you need a pre amp.
