why 7? seems like a lot. I usually start with 1 melody which I might pan one side and a counter melody which I would pan to the opposite side. Then I would build from there, changing instruments along the way, maybe having some alternate melodies based off the originals, or even a complete...- 2GooD Productions

I too improvise practically everything based on what sounds right using what musical theory I know. Copying is a great way to learn how somebody else did something, but shouldnt be used for much more than that. How many tracks?
It can vary greatly, anything from 20 to 45+, if im sampling then I use a lot less sometimes, but when composing they can quickly add up.
