Need Help (new into music scene)

I totally disagree here, in fact all the vocals for Thriller where recorded with SM7 (NOT SM57) mic. Dynamic and Condenser mics are different for different purposes. I almost always use a nice dynamic mic for really aggressive vocals, and usually a condenser for the pretty type vocals. I say get...

Need Help (new into music scene)

@lion-ucs I cant say I disagree, but when you go USB on the mic you are forced to use two interfaces. One for input one for output. This will cause extra setup hassle and latency. Its just not worth it.

Need Help (new into music scene)

But you said you are getting an Mbox, Your first mic should be an SM57, you will use that forever. Once you get a better handle on things then you can upgrade. As far as your track, there are so many effects on your voice its hard to tell. But a better mic would help for sure. Now the ART...

Need Help (new into music scene)

Just don't get a USB mic, if you have an Mbox use that as your interface and plug a mic in to the mbox. When you use a USB mic that becomes and audio interface as well, and lots of programs don't work well with multiple interfaces. Honestly if I was buying my first mic it would be an SM57 hands...

DONT BUY THE SAMSON MIC! Get a regular mic NOT a usb mic. A USB mic will cause fits with pro tools!

    When It Comes To Digging...

Well kinda, the big problem is that you really could not build a following on your own. And even if the record flopped the label still owned you and I mean OWNED you even if the band breaks up, the members are still owned by the label. It was crazy back then. Shady stuff for sure! But now you...

    When It Comes To Digging...

The business model for major labels for years was throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. One hit will pay for a thousand misses. That business model does not really work anymore.

What do you use for mastering your tracks?

I used to agree, but I recently switched for that to Studio one from presonus. The workflow of studio one is SO much better. And I still use the same plugins either way.

Thinking of ditching the turntables and going all digital. Thoughts?

yea I know what your saying, but most of the vinyl I go looking for is really strange stuff. Spoken work stuff, old piano music, orchestral, stuff from the 30's. Things are not really worth that much. You sure can make lots of money flipping vinyl, no doubt. But honestly I fear becoming a pack...

    Help upgrading pc...

Well you are cheaper off buying a new dell then trying to upgrade this old PC. Because you will need to buy a new mainboard/CPU/RAM and probably OS. Also your sound card is shit, its really time to upgrade that. Get something from maybe RME, or Edirol.

Thinking of ditching the turntables and going all digital. Thoughts?

But that defeats the point. Its having stuff to have stuff. And most records are not worth anything, and never will be. That's why you can buy them at the thrift stores 2 for a dollar. Also I don't want to move with them again, not saying I am moving anytime soon. But I will move out of this...

ok, I am going to give it a month and see if I can live without vinyl. And if after that month I really didn't need to use any of it I am going to sell 90% of my vinyl and my decks.
