Thanks for the response, 2Good. Strangely enough, sounds like we do a similar thing. Generally what I do goes something like this... 1. Kick layered with an 808 to add weight (though wish to stop layering like this) 2. i. Eq highpassfilter/lowcut at about 35hz/40hz ii. compress to add punch... -

What I don't get is... surely if you crush the peak down to the same level as the main 'body' of the sound, you could then effectively raise the drum back up to match its original peak level and you'd have an incredibly louder drum? Which is more desirable? If you add 'punch' you increase the... -

Thanks for the responses guys. And yeah, I'll often layer an accoustic kick with the weight of an 808 for the 'thud'. I find it hard finding good drum samples -

Now I've often heard lots of people always say 'yeah if you want a good kick drum just layer like three kicks together', but I've also read somewhere that this is a rookie mistake, and actually not the best thing to do due to things such as phase cancellation and... -

@Dream police, the guitar pattern is sick. Specially the bit that follows the initial/main tune. Only thing I'm not feeling so much is the weird effects that are flying about, the scratches are cool with it though.- Iron Keys

Just to reinforce what I need (or because this thread has actually helped me work out a bit better what I may/not need). The reason I want a control surface, is to 1. Speed up/smoothen my workflow. 2. So I don't have to be staring at a screen and clicking. 3. so I can actually turn my screen... -

I have Sonar 8 ... but when my funds are correct I'ma sort out equipment and software, and might get the new Sonar or a different DAW, dependant mostly on which best suits my work flow and 'feels' better to use. -

I've got a midi keyboard/controller, it has sliders and knobs, yet they seem to randomly control random parameters in vst's as opposed to being useful and controlling the faders in my daw's mixer. I'm sure there's probably a way to link them to it, but seems to elude me. -

It's just that mainstream music now, when it comes to dance music styles... they're all turning to this heavily synthesized robotic futuristic sounding crap... almost every song out there sounds this way. The ones in the charts at least. It's just what the music industry is on for the minute... -

How comes? The benefit I personally see in it, is I wouldn't be sittin' there clicking away and staring at a computer, when really I need to focus more on what I'm hearing... As in hardware to control the DAW's mixer? Also I'd like to be able to record things in... guitar/vocals/other... -
