i agree; i'd run it thru the preamp 1st, but it seems redundant to use a mixer and a multitrack...also, the mixer prob has a preamp built in as well, although it may not be that great -

Buy a iMac or PC?
i love the imac g5 i bought....its what i use and i don't have any problems, plus no spyware or viruses. but i heard that some people had trble using the mbox w/ it, so to be on the safe side i would look online about mbox compatability with the imac before i bought nything. -

10 dollar mastering? Can it be True?
I've NEVER heard of anybody doing real mastering for $10...it seems like a scam to me, or real amateurs; i don't think any good is gonna come frm it. Real mastering equipment is $$...it wouldn't make any sense for them to charge that little, when they could be charging AT LEAST 10 times as much -

Protecting Your Hearing

MIDI Keyboard Recommendation
i have the m audio radium 61 key, which is nice and real affordable, and has both knobs and sliders (although i don't end up usin them too much). However, the radium doesn't have weighted keys, and i would have to say that getting weighted keys on a midi controller really makes a huge... -

Studio Monitors
i don't think there are any monitors worth gettin under $200....ur better off saving up for better ones. I have m-audio bx-5's which i like and were round $300, and i consider them bare essentials. in the end, i think u need a sub that's bigger than just 5 inches....probably at least... -

I personally use Native Instruments Kontakt which is awesome for me, but i dunno cause that east west symphony stuff is pretty outrageous.... -

keyboard/synths or midi controller?
i don't think i would make the whole beat on the synth...id prob transfer it onto my computer for additional inst and drums. As for sounds, i was thinkin more along the lines of good string patches and cool sounds (although thick synth patches would be pretty nice) -

Waves is sicckk....but i can't really run em in realtime; i use it on Peak 4 (im on a Mac) for waveform editing of any sort -

I think MarkN has some good points, especially with don't eq unless you have to......also, what I've learned is that deductive EQ is the way to go. Rather than boosting frequencies, your much better off lowering the rest of them to emphasize that freq that you want more of. I know it takes a... -

i'm mastering on Peak 4, and i know that normalizing can get me loud (thanks for the tip anyway! i appreciate it), but I'm talking about after you normalize once and you wanna boost the levels without it sounding over-compressed or limited....like through eq'ing correctly to preserve headroom...
