ok, basically my problem is that i'm not stable in one country. I'm Australian, had a computer and had to sell it because i've moved to Norway with my girl. Now i'm moving back to Australia for a year, then back to Norway etc etc

So obviously i cant buy a desktop pc, because selling them every year could get pretty annoying and since i have no idea about computers, i need some advice on what i should look for in a laptop

I'm using Reason 3.0, Recycle, soon to be cubase or acid, an m-audio oxygen 8 and a trigger finger plus the standard other stuff, iTunes etc. I'm also needing the computer to study on in the years to come.

My budget is about $1400 USD, alittle more if i absolutely have to.

If someone could please help me it'd solve alot of headaches. Thanks

dood thats the biggest ripoff, nobody buy this shit, i jsut bought a dell inspiron intel core duo processor 120 gig hard drive 2 gigs or ram cd burna , and a 17 inch widescreen lcd for almost half of the price of that ''music xpc'' laptop. they should be shot for tryin to sell that
p.s. dell still will ship your systems with xp installed on it, you dont HAVE to get vista
im sure all the ''audio tweaks'' on the music xpsystem can be googled online and done by yourself pretty easily
i got a dell cuz i had to , if i coulda chose what brand to actually get i woulda got an hp

I got a dell too.

On a side note (because you'll upgrade anyways) they ship with the shittiest sound cards on the planet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I wasn't making music with my shit and was just an average customer I would be pissed with the sound cards they come with. Shit. Shit. Shit.

"Just cuz they say the Laptop is "Tweaked for music" it doesn't mean anything. It's only a marketing scheme. "

Sorry I have to call bull shit on that. The design from top to bottom is different. The chip set in the main board is different. The thing is also designed with acoustic sound in mind. Sorry but dells and HP's sucks unless you spend 2k. The tech firm I worked for fixed dell and hp laptops that where dropping like flys with issues. This is over priced but you would buy a mac? Read the specs on that laptop. Sorry there is allot going on under the hood. In fact I just went to dells site and priced out a systems with the same specs and I mean chipset, HD speed, warranty everything the dell had a smaller screen and was over 2k. SO I would say this is a good deal.

Grab an HP factory refurb, dual core, 17", that's what my friend got, it's dope.

I checked online, here's a link:

http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/outlet_store/refurb_notebooks/hp/4/storefronts/RV112UAR%23ABA

Only drawback to me is that it's Vista, not all software is compatible....

I agree with Dahkter grab an HP. Check out the dv9500z.It might be what youu are looking for. You can get one new with customization for around the price range you're looking for and get the job done. I'm actually a notebook training specialist for HP. So I deal with all day. I f you get a chance check out the Pavillion HDX, that thing's a monster. Expensive though.

I got a dell inspiron 1505, with a 80gb hd, 2gigs of memory, intel dual core, upgraded graphics card(i am a gamer to), windows xp pro.

I paid 1400 for my laptop and its the shit, fast as hell and I just kept the 80gb hd, cause i got a 500gb external.

I run reason 3.0, cubase sx, and recycle and it runs all 3 at the same time just fine.

its just how you work it dog.

But I will be switching over to mac next year just for my music projects for school if not i would keep my dell.
