I have gone up and down these manuals and even checked out some books at the library and i can't seem to get a definitive answer on this..

but w/o a midi controller you can't do much in reason huh?

i know its some programs out there u can buy but i'm sayin i don't have funds like that you know $30 or $40..

but i do know I Have to save up for an audio interface to get this all done..

what audio interface would you recommend and why? My aim is to be a sample based producer with records as my sample source... and make beats and track and record them to ableton live and do vocals there too..

i'm lookin at the m audio 410 firewire box but truth be told i aint' really know what this has that a pro tools mbox 2 doesn't ya feel me?

any knowledgable head that can break it down, its gon be mad appreciated.. what should i be lookin at gettin?

TRUST i did my h/w from tweakheads page to reading digital music books thicker n a bible and ish...

thank you and peace, hope somebody answer this in the next ten min's before they give the kid the boot..

U can pencil shit in but with such a powerful program I'd say it's worthless to not have a midi controller

i would say use a midi keyboard to use reason to its full capability, but you if just sampling loops(i.e jazz loop) or drum loops you really wouldn't have to use a midi keyboard, cause you can load it up in the dr. rex and make a drum pattern in the redrum using the step sequencer, i would say basic shit ya know.

But if you look on ebay, they have some older m-audio keyboards for like 15 to 20 bucks. also look for them old casio keyboards with midi on it and just buy a midi to usb cord

The Step Editors in Reason are dope.

You can produce some sick patterns using your mouse and the different editors. I used to sneak and makes beats at work because all I had was a mouse.

When the controllers not around, I use a program called Bome's Midi Mouse. It's an interface like GarageBand has that let's you use your mouse and "qwerty" keyboard as a midi controller.

Definitely not as efficient as a real midi controller, but it gets the job done. It's also freeware.
