Dope article, you know he's old skool when mentioning using tape to extend samples and loops when sampling because the old machines (old Sp's, early mpcs' etc ) sampling time was so minimal, this is something that I wish a lot of the new heads keep in mind when they are quick to go back to peeps like Pete Rock or even Premo or Alchemist early production and talk about their so called primitive, or even sometimes inconsistent sampling or non musical approachLOL who ever said you need to be a musician to make Dope hip hop its not even about that or was it intened(non seamless or just looped and not too much innovation) .....its unfair to even look back at them with the tools we have available such as software like Reason and Fruity loops, unlimited sampling capability/capacity..compared to the methods a lot of the legends of hip hop production and engineering were working with the build their discographies.....there's just so much more available now such as a grid and piano roll and Zoom for editing that puts you way ahead off the break..along with how to make a beat videos LOL.....you just cant undervalue the shit the innovators and legends were doing.....I cant criticize shit about them....its great to see an article from one of the old engineers in this craft called hip hop....its not the music its the art....good look
