I may be wrong but I think the over-compression may be a result of the bass being a bit hot in the final limiting stageThanks @2GooD Productions - will work on getting the compression. I was trying to get the kicks and bass to play nicely and was struggling with it.

Personally, if Im going to layer two basses, I limit one to lower frequencies and one to the higher ones for translation across more limited playback devices that cannot reproduce the low lows. And try to eliminate any frequencies that might be shared between the 2, 1 to reduce phase issues and 2 to reduce unwanted peaks where a frequency might suddenly jump out in the mix.Very likely, It's two basses layered together. I had to bring the bass bus all the way down as it was far too strong in the mix. Will check and see what I had going on when I get back home.
All in all, layering basses is a pain in the fucking arse that I'd rather avoid altogether. Its never easy to get it to work.Yeah, that's what I tried to do...but def missed the mark. It's the NI Rickenbacker and Massive's Trees (sub-bass) preset. I like the tone and texture of the Rick, but felt it needed some extra weight (hence the sub-bass).

Actually, you can't vote for a tie - the only way would be to not vote - but it's a possible result. I agree with everything, so alright, since you voted for @BiggChev , I'll vote for @Armani to tie, as it would be fair. I also don't mind the flappy kick drum that much, and the funky touch is so catchy that I want to reward it. Props to both, sirs. When I listened on my phone Id have certainly given it to @Armani really really like the construction of the beat, but after hearing on my proper monitors, Im going to go with @BiggChev My reason is because the mix really lets down Armani's beat, the kick sounds really flappy, if the beat was mixed properly would be an outstanding piece of work. I can hear a little over-compression on Biggchevs beat when the bass is present, but apart from that, it was mixed pretty well. This battle was very close for me with both beats being of a high standard, so my decision only came down to the mix in the end, IMO on balance overall, in that respect, the Biggchev beat was more sonically pleasing. But props to both beats, a hard choice. In the end there can be only one winner.
