Man, this fire! You were saving it for Round 3, because it definitely can’t be a throwaway. It’s a bit like Fragments but much, much, much better—more dramatic but not pretentious or overblown, more emotional, more intimate. I can’t hear any flaws and the mix is enveloping, with a bit of a trip-hop atmosphere. Congratulations, it’s really cool. To me, it’s one of the best beat you’ve made.

Shame we didn't get to hear this in Battle That. I always love your ability to pull from the fringes of what would be conventionally sampled for hip-hop. This certainly leans more to the trip/art/complex - hop world (getting some RJD2 vibes) from this one.

@BiggChev This beat has me bouncing in my chair, I love the feel and mood of it, the little crackle and hiss sounds great, I feel the bass is very slightly understated(personal taste) edit: Its not all the bass, just the one note that comes in at the end of some of the bars, the bass under the kick sounds just right
@attila Also a dope beat, I love some parts and Im not such a great fan of some of the more choppy parts(again personal taste). The beat hits hard and the bass is right where it needs to be.
I've listened 3 times so far and I'm torn between them, I will listen a few more times then make my choice.

Funny, I have a crunch/saturation chain I’ve been tinkering with for the past few months. I found I was abusing it too much so I eased up with it on this beat. Irony I suppose lol.

Ahhh, that explains the "sounds too clean" comments hahahaha
I've been searching for some plugins to add some grit and dirt that I like, but still searching. My ears dislike distortion when I push it too far, I can't help myself.

I'm pretending I have an SP1200 by just crunching the shit out of everything I make lol.

Native Instruments 'Kolor' is a nice saturator/harmonic distortion with several different modes and lots of dedicated controls to drive AND tame the sound.

SoundGhosts - 'Texturize' is great for that vinyl crackle. It's also has an envelop follower so the cracks/pops sound a bit more natural than something like Izotope Vinyl or a stock crackly loop.

Most of the grit is accomplished by using the sampler engines in Maschine. Otherwise, I'll also use Logic Pro's ChormaGlow for a little drive or BitCrusher for that downsampled sound.

I use saturation quite a bit, Black Box Analog Design's HG2 is my go to for bass and kicks.
I have quite a few plugins for distortion, its just whether I like the results or not.

Distortion, tastefully used, is something I didn’t start using until very recently. It definitely takes drums to the next level.
