i met a producer through a friend a while back that was making some hiphop beats. i`d look at him strange because he was in his 40`s. mostly everybody i know in their 40`s listen to r&b or blues, not hiphop. so my question is:

what do you think about someone at that age wanting to be a hiphop producer???

i dont think anybody would have a problem with Bob James, Maurice White, David Axelrod or Eugene Mcdaniels doing some tracks for them. Plus there are already a lot of OG cats that do hip hop production still, 45 king, Prince Paul, Dr. Dre, DJ Premier. I think the younger you can get into it the better, but most people dont have the dough to get any equipment until they get to be a little older anyway.

I dont think it matters, if the beats are there, you can get work. Now you may not be able to be on the video showing your wrinkled up tattoes.

Look at Dre, he's 40, Mark the 45 King has to be around 50, and they both still bang.

AGE DOES NOT MATTER!
it's great to see older people produce hip-hop!
hip hop is ageless.. you can be 70 years old, and still make beats.

i agree with wings isnt that 45 king dude like 40, you meet people that were in their twenties back in Run DMC times and its like meeting Yoda or something like that I love seeing older people in hip hop because it reasures me that this isnt just a fad for teenagers.

i would think it would be easier to be a producer in ur 40s as far as hip hop and makin sample based beats. i would think they are more familiar with alot of the songs used in todays music so they probably know alot of gems the could flip. but they would probably be more into making their own music and at the age of 40 they must already be familiar with playing music and stuff like that. im pretty sure the in house players dre and big producers have are pretty old too.

Well, look at it this way - what if hip hop is his addiction, sommin he cant get enough or be tired of and just walk away. I believe he's just like many of us here on Ill, music's our calling if it wasn't we would busting out tracks outta mediocre equipment. So, I believe we're just like him 20 years ago will be just like him 20 years from now, still in music whether it'd be teaching it to our kids or sommin simple as leading church choir.
So, I believe hip hop needs people like that not the age but the dedication................

age only matters for physical professions like sports etc. and it also matters when you have sex with jail bait. lol

seriously though....beats are art. art comes from the mind and the mind doesnt recognise age

I really think it doesn't matter.
I'm 31 years old now and still love hip hop.
I've been in love with hip hop since I was 12 years old.
the only thing is that I listen to more kinds of music now and that shows in my beats I think.
the other advantage is that you usually got more money when you are 30 then when you are 18 so you can invest more in musical equipment.

i dont think anyone is doubting that if a beat is dope its dope it dont matter how old the producer is.

But it depends on ur goals, i mean if ur the type of producer who wants to be up in the videos and socialising at all the hip hop events than yeah when ur old u gonna be feeling pretty out of place when u got to certain hip hop shows/parties and everyone in there is a teenager.

plus its always good to start early, i mean look at peeps like alchemist started making beats at 14 and now he 24 and already a 10 year vet but still hella young and can still vibe with the young cats in the game.
