Losing the passion for music, period.

Even though the last beat I made was probably my best I have no drive to continue making music, I have no desire to even listen to music. I dunno maybe I'm burnt out.

Please tell me I ain't alone in this.

yup!!!! lately when i been getting on illmuzik!!! i use to get on here man!! and i would be inspired to learn and make alot of music!!!
i guess sometime you just need a break to anything related to music even if its going on illmuzik!!!
need a break from all source that lead to music!!! even listening to it!!
its good to take breaks!!!

I can only recommend taking a break from it for a while and see how you feel in a few weeks.
I usually get into a slump after creating a track that I think is a banger, I have a hard time matching the quality and feel that my efforts are wasted and I cant do something of similar quality. This is the biggest cause of all my slumps.
I wouldnt throw in the towel just yet, Id definately take a break and reasses the situation in a month or so.
Normally after a break I come back with fresh ideas and differences in the way Im doing things and so find the enjoyment in making the music again, and come up with tracks that I really like again.
But if you still feel the same way in a few months then maybe concentrate on another talent.
I think everyone should work doing what they enjoy, if you cannot regain the enjoyment then give it up then.
But such big decisions take plenty of thought, dont rush into any decision you will regret later, just weigh up the possibilites and go from there.
Good luck man.

I think it happens to everybody. Sometimes it's a fad or a hickup, other times, permanent.

My pops used to be a hardcore audiophile. I mean, 5 digit dollar systems and sh*t. Then one day he quit. And for like 10 years, he didn't give a sh*t about music. Then I got him an iPod for Christmas. He lost his mind. Now he's got the Alpine deck that syncs up with his iPod. He got all this sh*t in his crib all synced up. He can't stop listening to music.

I have my moments.

But all I do is listen to my favorite tracks and I'll eventually get the bug to start chopping again. I keep a folder of my favorite songs of all time on my computer. I'm talking from GUY all the way to Termanology. I keep the rest of my music on an external hard drive. I use these songs for two reasons. One, to A-B my songs. To check the sound quality. Two, to stay inspired.

If it gets really bad, I'll bore myself on something else like video games. I'll play a game like 3 days straight and then get frustrated and get back to making beats.

Makings beats is like porn. Too much and you'll get sick of it. But you never lose the desire.

Appreciate the comments guys. Was feeling a bit loopy there for a sec.

I think I'll take the good advice and just take a break from music for a sec, see how it plays out.

walk away, take a break. It's a tedious thing (making music). We all get that feeling, it's only natural.

i got the feeling right now i cant make a beat right now even if u had my girl hanging off a rope over a pool of burning acid while listening to a Lil Jon album...doesnt get much worse than that

Like most people are sayin, it most likely happens to everyone...
I think thats the true test though becuase IMO "music doesnt leave you - you leave music", and if it happens, it happens.
For me, its like crack basically. Even if i dont want to listen or create it, im almost driven to regardless of my present state of mind.
Shit, the day i dont care about music its going to be a cold world tho because thats pretty much all that keeps me going inside.

Pretty sure I'm not depressed.

Pretty sure you need to get out some. I find that I feel very inspired to make music when I go out to places and hear songs playing. Sometimes the song will be so good and have so much to it that I feel I could chop it right then and there, but obviously would need to go home to do it.

Take a break, Read, Write, do somthing to stimulate the mind and get the juice needed to be creative.

You might be getting stagnet with your environment.
I youst to get like that all the time before I got back in school. Right now I am so busy with work and school that I have to fight for a night with my projects so i really can't get burn't out. Another thing is I listen to records while doing my homework so I have a constant inflow of ideas that I might do something with when I get my free night for music. Free time is my Worst Enemy, period! If this continues then you might want to let it go for awhile, just don't sell any of your equipment for a year or so (i've done this and it helps). Well, best of luck with your particular situation,

I have no clue about your background with music, but maybe consider of starting remix-project or something? It helped me to get a bit more focused and it really inspired to make new music.

I feel your pain tho, going thru the same struggle myself really.
