free midi monitor applications

Hey hey.

i´m currently trying to create a remote map in reason 3 for my unsupported "hercules dj console" midi controler.

Can anyone recomend any good free midi monitoring applications?

oh, and (please excuse my ignorance) but is notepad a text editor suitable for the job?

- for use with windows! has anyone actually done this ? anything to look out for ?
