Appreciate the reply.
Anyone else can help with a more intstructive way of how to go about doing this?! Need some nice synthetic 80's sounding stab. Got one on an instrument I don't own, doesn't sound exactly how I want it though, so would like more creative control.

If you want to synthesis your own (whether you're using samples or oscillators) consider the properties of your desired result.

I'll be using freesound.org to get my points across since they have waveforms of the samples right on their site and you don't have to register to look and listen (you do have to register to download).

Consider this stab: http://www.freesound.org/people/druidbloke/sounds/165599/
It has a very fast and relatively fast release and plenty of reverb trailing at the end. This is all very much like any drum sample.

Take these for example:

As Wrightboy has already mentioned; More often than not, hits/stabs often consist of multiple instruments. In fact, again as been mentioned, it's often drums in combination of horns and or strings at multiple octaves. These multiple octaves is one of the major things that makes that "big", full sound.

If you take all of these basic things into consideration you should be able to take a good multi osc synth and make a single synth patch or layer a few samples together to make a good stab sample.

Hell those 80s stabs I thought were standard issue pre loaded sounds on damn near everything ! lol

Good post Lion-ucs!

Ha knaaa mean?!

Lion-Ucs, safe for the post, man.

I've made big stabs before, but I tended towards more 'real' sounding instruments/samples then. Octaved them and all that. I think I was looking for a lazy way to get it in a synth, so it had a more synthetic sound and less time consuming. I don't even have a sampler!

I downloaded Proteus VX (or whatever it's called), but the thing is a jar, the presets wont load and all sorts. I can only get sounds to work as 'auditions'.

Much love for the responses.
