Actually, what makes a good compressor?


Analog circuitry, and tubes, and all that other hardware shit....for software, the Waves plugins get the job done...Unless you want the warmth of a tube compressor, just about all the software/plugin compressors will do the same thing

2 midrange priced comps worth of looking at, dbx166xl this is a weapons on your drumtrack, a really fast envelope and a gate, makes a dull drumtrack punchy and snappy. Focusrite Compounder, really subtle comp with bass boost but works miracles on anything i.g.

I agree Formant, I use a dbx 166xl and for the price, it does a great job. Software wise, I gotta go with the others, waves plug-ins are real nice.
