Music is getting worse

This to me sounds like old heads criticizing younger athletes for not playing the game right when in reality they're a lot better than they were but maybe not as primative.

Imho, poorly pronouncing mistimed and out of key lyrics with a heavy out of tune autotune effect recorded bad with room noise over a couple random loops that copy every single song and tutorial is objectively not as good as clever, well timed, well performed and recorded and individual music which isn't a just copying the same thing 50,000 times.

My take on this is that music is still really good, if not better. But everyone is a slave to the stream numbers.

Also these bigger music companies just pay for ads so it distorts views.

In terms of the actual music technology. I agree with what he is saying, but eventually we'll find ways to go beyond standard practices because technology frees up so much time.

I have a hard time believing music is any worse, there's artists with like 0 views that are making straight bangers. Also, my stuff is heat. If I'm in the game, music is good.

I'm an old head in ways too but just saying.

I disagree but with a caveat. I don't think production and beat making has suffered much. Trap beats aren't generally my thing, but I think with the right vocals (especially since I'm a big fan of double time chopping) they have their place.

What I see, at least in hip hop, that has stagnated significantly is in the vocal performances themselves. I'm pretty sure I said it when I first jumped into this thread, I started out making music by being a rapper, and to me bars are the biggest thing and a dope beat is a close second. I'm sick of hearing entire song length triplet bars. That in particular makes every song sound exactly the same as the one before it. Part of what makes vocals great is switching up the flow. I'm also tired of not being able to understand a single word the artist says, and even if they are clear they all talk about the same shit. It's like nobody has ideas anymore. The point I've tried to make is along the same lines you did where there's plenty of good music that just don't get views, but at the end of the day nobody except me wants to do this shit for free. All of the money is being pushed towards substandard artists who arent able to even visualize the candle let alone hold it comparing to the people who came before them and were also massively successful. Hip hop became less about what you're saying and more about the vibe.

I'm pretty sure I also mentioned that hip hop isn't dead, but it also has something that most other genres don't. The people making all the money are not putting out music half as good as the people who arent. Hip hop went pop and as such suffers from the same problems pop music has. It's all repetitive low effort shit meant to make money fast. It's become Mcdonalds.

@iDeaLoGiK boom bap is having a little resurgence, I hope it lasts. My current goal is to make some beats so fucking dope that some of my favourite emcees will want to jump on them. Just hope I dont have to sell testicles to make it happen as I only have 2 of them.
Not to toot your horn, god forbid but your beats are definitely good enough to get those placements. It's just that damn luck thing.

KRS 1, but like I said kids know it all already.
We are all social animals, I got into hip hop through a friend, it was a shared interest between me and my friend for many many years, we took that shit far too fucking seriously, but if I didnt, I'd never be here now.

The labels are responsible for what gets released, they serve the food, we just eat it. If we refused to eat what they were serving then they might be forced to improve their menu.

The overabundance of bedroom producers like us has diluted the quality of the music that is out there, combined with our rapidly diminishing attention spans, and the music becoming purely a route to getting paid so you can avoid getting a proper career. The real world doesn't work like that, 5 mins of fame will rarely provide for a lifetime of expenses. People chase fame and fortune which is fleeting, like our attention spans, instead of concentrating on building a long successful career with pension plans and creating a legacy to pass down to our children.

There are many reasons why the quality in all forms of entertainment is lacking, can't really scapegoat any one particular thing.
All true, the absence of filters, the overproduction of stuff for instant consumption, streaming... but no, music isn't getting worse; I still find incredible albums that blow my mind, as always. With this democratization of production, I think there's a lot more cool stuff than before, in absolute numbers. Then, as a percentage of the amount of junk, it's probably less. And that talk about privilege seems convincing to me.
