@2GooD Productions did somebody pull an all nighter? Assuming the title is alluding to the diggin you were speaking of yesterday.

That beat is bananas dude. One of my favourites of yours for a long time. As with alot of your beats I feel the drums would appreciate a little less attack and an increase in release just to let them breath a little. I think this beat would especially appreciate letting the transients of the drums through and not just ALL the smack. But yea, this is a belter.

Yeah, been up all night, spent about 12 hours on that one. Also gave this old beat a new mix and added a couple things, cleaned it up a bit too

That kick is solid, I think the piano could come up a little in the mix, the vocal is sort of drowning out the instrumentation, and that kick really kicks too so I think it would help the balance. Maybe a bassline too.
Nice one dude. Yea, had a listen in the car this morning. I've actually got a bassline but I think when I added Hitsville plugin to my master before mixdown it squeezed it a little. Although I've got it mainly placed with kick so that's why you'll be thinking the kick is thumping too. I've got Kaleidoscope on the sample and I did try to cut alot of the transient / sharper sounds from it but could maybe do with a lift like you say. I think this one has potential though, so I'll re-work it and probably repost the instrumental without the acapella. I'll actually post the rawer version too without the plugin chain.

I'll check this one later tonight too

Drums are great. They have a nice weight, sizzle, punch, and groove to them. The Jazzy sample is nice and used really well with some creative chops. I like how it doesn’t get to repetitive and has this improvisational jazz band feel to it. I would’ve Liked to hear the sample/melodic elements and bit more prominent in the mix though. Not sure if it was a decision to make space for the vocals - but I feel like there’s still enough space to bring them
Up. Speaking of vocals, both rappers are dope and have a wicked flow!

Polished Diamond:

I really like the bass tone and bass line in this. It’s a good reminder to get out of my wheelhouse and be more explorative with my sound selection. The drums feel like they’re pushing a bit which adds a really cool rhythmic quality. While they still have your signature sound, being less busy and coupled with the percussion really helps to elevate the swing and feel. This is a bit more “reserved” than your usual stuff and yet you still manage to get in a lot of great little details. Great craftsmanship on this.

True Love:

Dope! Great sample selection and use. Haven’t heard the original, but this sounds clean. I’ve been going back and forth on your mixes. Personally they’re a bit brighter than I would go for, stylistically, but there isn’t anything wrong with it. Appreciate you having that signature sound even on the mix side too. What I think was really well done is the arrangement. The best moves forward and flows seamlessly from one section to the next weaving in and dropping out elements without it being to jarring or sudden. As someone who struggles with b-sections and variations, this is inspiring and may even be a reference track moving forward.

@JM.

Love this chill jazzy vibe. Perfect time capsule of that 90s soul and vibe. I fell like you and @hosie could collab on something really dope with that sound and aesthetic.

@BiggChev used 3 basses in Polished Diamond, one from the sample, then used serum for the bass that hits two notes with the kicks, that ducks the main bass sample, I also have a third serum sine + saw bass that comes in at the end of the 8 & 16 thats a bit gritty(maybe too gritty, it bothers me a little when everything else sounds so clean so might clean it up). Sampling is a whole new ballgame when you have multitracks to work with.
I wouldnt normally have such bright mixes, but Tonal Balance Control tells me to turn up my hi end. Before I load up an instance of Tonal Balance Control for a visual guide, my high end is a lot more subdued. I might start just trusting my ears a little more and not push the highs so far.
Thanks for the feedback bro.

@BiggChev appreciated as always dude. Weird you described it ss improvised jazz cause that's not far away from the vibe and it sums it up pretty nicely. I try to stay away from the structured norm and predictable layout.

@attila likewise I think "dry style" is pretty apt and one I'm leaning in to more and more.

@2GooD Productions Nice one on the beat/bass workflow/breakdown. I definitely think using your ears more would help find a more natural sound too. I had a few visual balance/EQ's and found myself just sort of looking rather than listening. Ruined the vibe and experience a bit too to be honest.
